What Makes Us Private View

Thank you to all our wonderful artists, performers and audiences who came to FUSEBOX last night. We're so grateful to be open again and to celebrate our amazing communities.

This exhibition reflects FUSEBOX as we know it: a space that Matters, a space that is Queer, and a space filled with Magyck.

What Makes Us will be open from Wednesday 5 August – Friday 28 August, every Wednesday to Friday from 12:00 – 19:00.

(There are reduced hours on 13 – 14 August when the venue will be open 16:00 – 19:00.)

We're looking for an inspiring creative collective to join our next Community Residence Programme!

Having identified a need for affordable spaces for creatives to come together and work with communities, we launched this programme in FUSEBOX, our new multi-arts venue on Kingston’s riverside, in 2023.

The successful organisation becomes our community resident and has 12-month access to FUSEBOX.

Take a look at the full application pack on our Live Opportunities page on the website for more info.

Apply by 13 March

⚠️ FUSEBOX Update ⚠️

During summer 2025, FUSEBOX experienced two major flooding incidents caused by circumstances entirely beyond our control. This resulted in burst pipes and overflowing toilets.

Despite over seven months of work with our venue partners to assess the damage and plan for recovery, the venue unfortunately remains closed to all activity.

While we had initially hoped to reopen in autumn 2025, and later January 2026, the situation is still unresolved.

As a result, all commercial hires are on hold, and our programmes for communities and young people have been postponed, cancelled, or relocated. The loss of FUSEBOX has taken away the beating heart of our organisation – the space where our team, emerging artists, vulnerable communities, and partners come together to connect, create, and share. Without it, the creative engine that fuels our work has been displaced, and the opportunities it provided have been put on pause.

This continues to be a challenging time for our organisation, as FUSEBOX sits at the heart of our work supporting young people to access the arts, build confidence, and find community in Kingston.

🔸 How can you support us 🔸

Without urgent support, there is a real risk that FUSEBOX, along with all it brings to our community, will be lost.

If you’re able to support our reopening, please come along to our annual Gala Dinner fundraiser on 22 April 2026. Tickets are now on sale and every ticket makes such a difference to the charity.

Whether your piece conjures fantastical worlds, otherworldly forms, a sense of wonder, or moments of transformation - we want to see where you find the magic in your artwork.

Coinciding with FUSEBOX’s reopening, “What Makes Us?” explores what makes us magical, what makes us matter, and what makes us queer.

This large-scale Open Call Exhibition launches in late January 2026, featuring 75 artists across three themes: Magyck, Matter, and Queer.

Giggles with the girlies to celebrate the end of my first @artistsopenhouses !

Having only moved to Brighton at the beginning of the year I am so glad I pushed myself to take part and start building a lovely little community here 💛 a huge thank you to everyone that stopped by to have a chat, it was super special to hear your stories of how the prints & places resonated with you.

Signed up with no expectations but delighted that over 100 works found new homes, was long listed for best open house and have been short listed for next year’s brochure cover!!

Thanks so much for all the kindness :) especially Tom for all your encouragement & support behind the scenes - you really are the best & I’m forever grateful 💛
