A look back on my booth at Mystique Market a couple weeks ago! This was such a special way to start off October!

Cemeteries and me go way back. My mom used to park in the cemetery to breast feed me between catering shifts when I was little. As a teen I would read books and just hang out in our local Cemetery. They have always been a place of peace and beauty for me and to get to vend in the Sacramento Historic Cemetery was so special.

A quick re-intro and a peek into the last 3 days at Chalk It Up… we set a low, mid, and high goal for what we hoped to make, and we were blown away when we hit our highest 3-day earnings since we began in 2022.

But even better than the numbers? The experience was magical. Three things I learned:

1. I can’t do this without community. Sacramento, you showed up and put your money where your mouth is, supporting your neighbors through small business. And to my fellow vendors — your tenacity always inspires me. Shoutout to @mal.inky @kckombucha @mngoart @betsyspyrography
2. We will never stop hustling. After 20 years pouring myself into draining, thankless nonprofit work, I’m finally living my dream of building something that’s mine, and I will do whatever it takes to keep it going.
3. Mom guilt is real. Since starting this business, I never wanted my kids to feel like they came second to it. As they’ve gotten older, they’ve become part of it — whether they asked for that or not. But they’ve embraced working in a family business, and the compliments they get, how kind they are, and the joy on their faces at our end-of-market celebration meal tells me we’re doing something right.

I’m so grateful to everyone who bought from us this weekend and who keep coming back. I literally get messages weekly from customers cheering us on, giving us a place to exist in this tough industry.

We’ll keep working hard to bring you products you can be proud of 😊 because we feel exactly the same way about everything we make.

One of the most amazing things about art for me is sharing it with others and the community that forms in and around it. My piece “Community Pride” in the show is dedicated to all of you.

My community inspires me, it takes care of me, and I truly don’t think I would be here without it.

I get to take my birth family to see it this week and my chosen family was there on opening night.

I hope you all get a chance to check it out and all @flowerfistmarket has to offer!! My show “Naturally Subtle” is up all month!

Not only pressed flowers, but hang dried flowers are so special to me! And you can see them all over my art show “Naturally Subtle”

Before doing art full time I worked on farms and one of my jobs was being a florist at a local farm. I worked with both fresh and dried flowers. This was where I learned to make wreaths, the best flowers for drying, and so much more. Some of the flowers you see in the show are from that time in my life (4 years ago) and the rest are ones I have slowly grown and accumulated over the years!

You can see all the art and dried floral installations all August at @flowerfistmarket !!!
