Regional Design & the Future of Architecture

The School of Architecture (SOA), Faculty of Arts & Architecture, The University of Lahore, in collaboration with Pakistan Design Week (PDW), hosted a thought-provoking symposium exploring the future of architecture through regional identity, heritage, and community-centered design.

The first panel, Scaling Heritage for Tomorrow, featured Prof. Fatima Nasir Alvi, Ar. Taimur Sarwar, and Dr. Omar Shujat Bhatti, who discussed heritage conservation, adaptive reuse, and the role of cultural continuity in shaping sustainable futures.

The second panel, Social Cartography – Designing for the People, brought together Ar. Muhammad Ali Saif, Ar. Ghammaz H. Sandhu, and Ar. Muhammad Haider Reza to examine architecture as a social practice, emphasizing community engagement and inclusive design.

In the Featured Designer Talks, Bilal Majeed and Hassaan Amjad shared insights on innovation, creativity, and the evolving role of designers. The event also honored Prof. Sajjad Kausar for his invaluable contributions to architectural education, regional design, and conservation in Pakistan.

A meaningful day of dialogue, learning, and collaboration, reinforcing the importance of designing for people, place, and the future.

Women today carry many realities at once — many selves, many crossings, many worlds moving inside one life.

This Women’s Month, UNESCO Chair on Inclusion through Art, did not ask the women of SVAD to inspire you. We asked them what they truly think — about womanhood, freedom, power, art, and what it means to exist fully in a world still learning to make room.

Eight questions. Many answers. No single image of what a woman must be.

Swipe to hear them — in their own words, from their own worlds.

Their worlds. Their words.
