Our next stop aboard Viking Mars brought us to the beautiful city of Málaga, where history, culture, and the Mediterranean lifestyle come together perfectly.
As the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, Málaga proudly celebrates one of the world’s greatest artists, and visiting the city where he was born and baptized made our walk even more special.
In the heart of the old town, we admired the remarkably preserved Roman Theatre, standing beneath the imposing Alcazaba fortress and reminding visitors of Málaga’s ancient past.
Strolling through the charming streets, we loved the colorful façades, the little balconies decorated with flowers, and even the laundry gently drying above the narrow lanes—every corner felt wonderfully authentic. The magnificent Cathedral of Málaga, affectionately known as “La Manquita” (“The One-Armed Lady”), impressed us with its beautiful Renaissance architecture. Although the skies were cloudy during our visit, the views from Gibralfaro were still spectacular, overlooking the city, the Mediterranean, the historic bullring, and our beautiful Viking Mars waiting in the harbor.
Today, the Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta still hosts traditional bullfights, although the practice remains the subject of ongoing debate in Spain, and many visitors now come simply to admire the historic architecture. Málaga perfectly blends Roman heritage, Moorish history, artistic treasures, and the relaxed Andalusian way of life.

1. Málaga is one of Europe’s oldest cities, founded by the Phoenicians around 770 BC.
2. Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga in 1881, and both his birthplace and museum can be visited.
3. The Roman Theatre of Málaga dates back to the 1st century BC and was rediscovered in 1951.
4. Málaga Cathedral is affectionately called “La Manquita” because one of its towers was never completed.
5. Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta opened in 1876 and is one of Spain’s most famous historic bullrings.

I genuinely think Caminito del Rey is one of the greatest natural wonders in Europe, and somehow it still doesn't get talked about enough. 🤯

Walking along narrow pathways bolted into the side of a 100 metre high gorge, with nothing but towering cliffs, turquoise water and endless views around you, is something every traveller needs to experience at least once.

The crazy part is this used to be known as one of the most dangerous walks in the world. Today it's completely restored, making it one of the most spectacular hikes in Spain without needing to be an experienced hiker.

If you're planning a trip to Andalusia, Málaga or southern Spain, don't make the mistake of skipping Caminito del Rey. Photos don't come close to showing how insane this place actually is.

Trust me, this is one of those places you'll be talking about long after you've left. 🇪🇸
