i’m a little late to the party, but i recently designed the costumes for VCUArts Theatre’ production of Mr Burns: A Post Electric Play.

what a crazy ride! it was a huge labor of love to bring this play to life and i couldn’t be more proud! i’m immensely grateful to the entire company; cast, crew, and everyone who came out to see the show.!! i’d like to give a special shoutout to the costume shop because my designs are just pretty drawings without a super talented team to create them!!

im so happy that i got to share my work with everyone! though im sad the show is over, im super excited for what the future holds!

live life gloriously and STAY WEIRD!!!

mr.burns!!! 🔥💛

working on this show has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life!! i am so grateful to have met so many new people who i am glad to now call my friends.

what a privilege it is to create theater! i have never felt so fulfilled, exhausted, excited, emotional, and passionate about a production. it’ll be hard to top this one.

i am thankful for all that i learned and all that i will carry with me from this show<3

this is the part where we say goodbye🫶

rinematic universe takes on her final college show and shares sentimental words about it!!! 🤍

I’m normally awful at saying really nice things and end up saying someone is gonna get backshots… but i think i cried after every show during this run because i knew it meant i was one night closer to my last on the hodges stage. and i have to document everything because i hate the thought that i might forget how i felt in the moment.

but i’m really grateful to have ended on such a weird show with a lovely cast that was okay with me crying all the time. everytime i looked up at the booth and saw Jannah, i felt like i also saw Annika (even though we were in the music hall), and Jessie, and Carissa, and Kayla and i think it’s really cool that the space has taken so many forms and seen me through so many phases of life. and even in b72 i felt like i was saying bye to Whitesplaining, LTROI, descendants, twelfth night, and chorus line all at once.

i’m going to be so very sad when it’s a new building that doesn’t have the same history, and if they knock hodges down and turn it into a parking lot i’ll definitely be mourning the loss of it. i’ve been unbelievably tired and frustrated in that theater, and laughed so hard I wanted to pee in that theater, and gotten to know some of my favorite people in there too. and my younger self would never believe that a five foot tall Asian girl in the arts could accomplish a lot!

a special shoutout to my final cast and crew of Mr. Burns for letting me document everything again. it means the world to me to have footage to look back on incredibly fondly. and you guys all will have a very special place in my heart ❤️🌟⚡️

looking forward to sobbing again when the theatre ball and graduation are really the final times i stand up there as a student!!!

(and i have way more footage of this process that I’ll spam eventually)

Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play asks why we choose life after loss and storytelling after words fail us. The human spirit has a funny way of holding on. I nearly backed out of my audition three different times. I walked into the room knowing it’d end sooner than I could handle. I went to the emergency room for a severe hand injury. I stared at a three page monologue like it was the Rosetta Stone. I grappled with growing up and the end of my college journey. I cried more times than I can remember - and I’d do it all again.
Why?
These people made it worth it. You helped me be brave. Thank you. 💌
