Today we share a tribute to my late brother & comrade @mecka1084 Hajj Malcolm Latif El Shabazz 🤲🏾 a few days before what would have been his 42nd birthday on October 8th.

Every time I return to Malcolm, I find something I needed to hear. The clarity. The courage. The love for his people. A voice that still reaches us through all the noise, asking what we’re willing to accept and why.

We still see people being taught to fear the oppressed before they ever hear their voices. Violence gets an excuse. Resistance gets a label. Malcolm understood how deeply this enters our minds, how easily we can learn to look at our own people through the eyes of those who despise them.

To me, honouring the great Malcolm means carrying that awareness into how we live, what we create, and who we stand beside. Question what you’re handed. Keep learning, even when it changes you. Love your people enough to speak. There’s still so much work to do.

We live in the world of good vs evil , from dawn of time till now we praised heroes to learn from them . From ancient cultures to modern day still we have to remember who did what and why they stood on that.
.
We remember the great people's path , memories , stories , we teach them in schools and make movies from them. So it's a duty that all cultures felt for their heroes so the journey won't end with their death.
In our culture death is only the beginning, we honor those who sacrifice their lives because we know how huge this sacrifice is.but there is a slight difference between the one who is martyred and one who sacrificed for nothing. "The martyr was a great man even when he was alive"
.
So the martyrdom is not a death culture lable but more like what the hero would do for the greater good , The ultimate sacrifice, it's like being a candle for the ones who are walking a dark path. Martyr burns so the whole place can be visible to anyone who is passing by while he was conquering the path him/herself.
.
Today we honor this journey, of a man who stood strong against the imperialism and spoke on black people's lives in the ghettos right after he earned his platform.
Thank you Tupac " we bury you a G "

Dostoevsky said "Beauty will save the world," and the Prophet ﷺ said "God is beautiful and loves beauty" — but the beauty I keep returning to now isn't determined by physical appearances, glamour, or popularity anymore.
.
For me, beauty in art today is determined by how aware the artist is — first of themselves, then of the world around them, which strongly includes politics and religion.
.
They don't need to be political at all, but that awareness is visible through the energy of their body of work: in its gaze, in what it chooses to notice and refuses to ignore, in the difference between art that performs and art that witnesses.
.
You can feel it — a body of work made by someone who has genuinely sat with themselves and then genuinely sat with the world carries a weight no amount of polish can fake, and that quiet, luminous presence, not the kind that flatters but the kind that awakens, might be exactly what Dostoevsky meant.

happy mt damavand day 💜 to those who wish ill on our beloved homeland & hamvatan— get the word “iran” out of your mouth. wash thoroughly with soap. read a book & question your fear of all things unknown to you.

this gorgeous clip is via @iran - might i remind you it is the most ancient ongoing civilization on earth, with the most beautiful topography & the most generous yet resilient people. it is the place that gave us many of the inventions & discoveries that are taken for granted by us westerners. it is not *not* by design that we don’t learn anything about ancient persia or modern iran in american schools… 🌹🍷

i started a free course on ancient iranian history & it’s wild how much we never learned— majorly due to the emphasis on greek recorded history… pay attention to the way the modern day media portrays the persian - whether in “300” or in ambiguous caricatures of middle eastern people, constantly conflating arabic & farsi, always putting them in the role of “terrorist”.

there’s a lot to learn for every single one of us! & our prejudices won’t dissolve until we make a point to recognize they do exist, on some conscious or subconscious level. social psychology 101 ! history 101 ! empathy 101 !! 🤍🤍🤍🤍
