Mini #michaeljackson in📍Paris, France 🇫🇷 dancing 🕺🏾 with @salif_crookboyz at 5 yo 🤩

Idris grew up watching MJ like I did because I was inspired by him to become an artist/performer and I am a BIG MJ Fan 😍. But my son also understood and felt Michael and the depth of his spirit in a unique way, his movements (meditation) learning them by himself and connected to him instantly as express himself at his fullest and FEARLESSLY in front of anyone.

My Son is 12 yo now but still an amazing dancer and still puts MJ’s moves in what he creates. We saw the movie and it reminded me I had this in my phone from 2019🤯 #michaeljacksonfans #michaelmovie #michaeljacksonforever

#michaeljackson has always been an inspiration to express emotions and create freestyles with his dance moves at home or like here litteraly at the @ugccinemas Créteil (France 🇫🇷) Since he was a baby, Idris could learned just by watching him on YouTube and me doing my own thing as a professional dancer helping him to learn some moves. Yep, BIG FAN growing up with him in so many ways !

#michaellefilm #michaelmovie is out TODAY in France 🇫🇷 but we haven’t seen it yet …

Put your PRACTICE into MUSIC! 🎶

You know, my motto is: „WORK SLOWLY SO YOU’LL LEARN FAST“!
I’m all for keeping your practice simple and go one step at a time. BUT we also don’t want to lose the fun of practicing, right?! 🥳

So go ahead and practice on songs directly once in a while.
I wrote down 3 different songs with a specific task for each of them:

1️⃣ „Vampire“ by Olivia Rodrigo: Good for practicing high notes in a medium volume & economizing your breath support
2️⃣ „What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish: Good for practicing soft breathy notes, falsetto & a subtle vibrato
3️⃣ „Ego Talkin’“ by Saint Harison: Good for practicing riffs & runs and establishing your twang

Which song would you pick? 🎵🎶

.
.
Food for thoughts: when I was young there were very few Blacks in schools , young Caucasians use to ask me “ why there are no virtuose in African music?” . This use to drive us mad… we often would end up fighting 🤣🤣🤣.

But as years passed by , the question kept coming back , and indeed when one has the humility to question both his cultural heritage and global culture , that question actually helps to grow…
.
.
Fast forward,A while ago, we were grateful to be invited to @nollywoodweek .
Given the rich tradition of West African- especially Nigerian-Theatre and acting, I have often been very ambivalent about Nollywood … the content ,especially aesthetic , isn’t really there , though I must confess some directors and actors are doing the graft …
.
.
The same applies to the music genre called afro-beats … I just feel that given the pioneering works of Fela ,Tony , Baba Anye, and so many great sonic pioneers , we need a little bit more …

Unlike many of my instrumentalist friends ,I personally don’t think beat-makers are killing music especially in popular african music , to me I just feel that we simply don’t have enough instrumentalists who performs both tempered and un-tempered instruments to fuse both acoustic and electronic beats/groove to take popular music to new heights … today popular music in Africa (afrobeat , coupé décalé or Congolese music, hip-life) is ruled by singers and not instrumentalists , which was not always like that ….

.
.
It gives/gave me hope to witness a classically trained instrumentalist @iamafroline who respects popular music &decided to fuse the technic from classical music ( hear how she bends the notes ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥) with both Afro-beat melodies (hear the scales 🤔) & rhythms 💐💐.
It opens new sonic realms & by the same token , shows the infinite sonic possibilities of music (even pop music!)

Long live to Afro-Beat 🤣

.
.
One day I interviewed the great Congolese pianist/composer Ray Lema & I related to him about my frustrations as a child ,when hearing :”why there are no virtuosos in popular african music “, he told me:”well ,tell these people!the answer is simple…you don’t become a virtuoso playing behind singers!!!”

TRICKS for your BELT or CHEST VOICE ⬇️

Some singers and voice teachers might also call Edge „Chest Voice“ or „Belting“.
Just like OVERDRIVE, EDGE is a "Full Metallic Vocal Mode" with a lot of “core” or “oomph” in the voice. The two modes can be a little difficult to distinguish. EDGE sounds just as full, clear and open, but a little sharper than OVERDRIVE and you can sing much higher in EDGE than in OVERDRIVE.

🪄Tricks to find EDGE:

1️⃣ Use a little more twang: EDGE has the narrowest setting in our vocal tract of all vocal modes. In order to achieve this setting, we need more twang. So imitate the sound of a duck or a person making an evil plan.

2️⃣ Sing the vowel "A" as in the word “And”.

3️⃣ Smile and show your lower teeth: this automatically raises the larynx and usually also the back of the tongue, which favors the more distinct twang that we need for EDGE.

Important reminder:
🚨Never add audible air to EDGE since it can harm your voice

💾 Save the tricks if you find them helpful.
❓Does a certain trick work particularly well for you?

Let’s build a STRONG and LASTING VOICE 💪🏽🎤

The Ssss exercise is like weightlifting for your support muscles.

You can repeat it daily and hold die Ssss a little longer each time until you manage to hold it for 1 minute straight without jerking or wobbling and without taking a breath in between. 😜

If you use the support correctly, you have 4 ✨advantages:✨

1️⃣ You’ll have more air, so you can sing longer phrases
2️⃣ You’ll expand your vocal range and be able to reach higher and lower notes
3️⃣ You‘ll be able to sing more powerful notes
4️⃣ You‘ll prevent yourself from getting hoarse

✅ Feel free to save the exercise so that you have it at hand for your daily vocal routine

❓How long did you manage to hold the Sss?

It's out! @angele_vl 's new clip for her fab song #balancetonquoi directed by the talented @charlotteabramow in collaboration with @opheliesecq was released last night. I had the chance to act in it as both a businesswoman representing the inequalities which still exist at the workplace and also as a student of the "Anti-Sexism-academy" - brilliant subjects. This video is about getting a message out there: the change in our society which is necessary in regards to equal rights and respect towards women has already started but has still a long way to go!
