Filmmaker on Filmmaker: NewFest38 Edition ⭐

To kick-off the 38th Annual New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival, we invited filmmakers with projects in this year’s festival to sit down and discuss their films, each other’s latest work, their creative process, and the queer film landscape at large. We hosted four different conversations, between teams with work ranging in length and genre, to allow for conversations and connections that surprised us all.

These conversations will be hosted on the @newfest Virtual Platform starting October 15, but you can catch glimpses of them here on our Instagram!

We hosted a meaningful conversation between filmmakers Lexie Bean (@whatwillibecome_doc) and @christophervallario (@affirmation_movie). They discussed how their filmmaking creates space for vulnerability, connection, and care within transmasculine people, the importance of highlighting joy and gender euphoria alongside more complicated experiences, and the ways community shapes how we imagine our futures.

Tickets for the NewFest38 Documentary Centerpiece WHAT WILL I BECOME? Saturday, October 17 and Shorts: Getting to Know Him on Sunday, October 18 are on sale now. Secure your spot at newfest.org ❤️

Thank you to our friends at @arri_rental for allowing us to use your space.

Introducing Filmmaker on Filmmaker: NewFest38 Edition ⭐️

To kick-off the 38th Annual New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival, we invited filmmakers with projects in this year’s festival to sit down and discuss their films, each other’s latest work, their creative process, and the queer film landscape at large. We hosted four different conversations, between teams with work ranging in length and genre, to allow for conversations and connections that surprised us all.

These conversations will be hosted on the @newfest Virtual Platform starting October 15, but you can catch glimpses of them here on our Instagram!

For our first conversation, we welcomed the directors of @beforeidofilm and @testthefilm, @garysjaffe and @samsmcconnell. They discussed male intimacy and vulnerability, how desire can shape identity, and how queerness shapes the ways they look at the world.

BEFORE I DO is on rush, and TEST has very limited tickets remaining. Secure your spot at newfest.org 💪

Thank you to our friends at @arri_rental for sharing your space and gear with us.
