Did you know there’s a castle in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood?

Listen to Chicago historian, Dilla, teach me about the historic castle of Beverly.

There’s so much history in this city that often goes unnoticed.

I photographed her literally one year ago and she says business has been booming since I’ve interviewed her. It has been going so well that she will be getting a store front soon! Make sure you all go out and support these two ladies in Hyde Park!

This guy told me he’s been in Chatham since a kid. He’s seen how 79th street was a robust bustling street and how gun violence and drugs has impacted the community. Decades later, he’s still here but he’s watched the community around him change in ways he never could have imagined.

He’s seen businesses come and go, families move away, buildings change, and generations of young people grow up on the same blocks he once did.

When we talk about gun violence, we often talk about numbers. But rarely do we hear from the people who have spent a lifetime watching their community change.

It was a pleasure chatting with you sir.

College should be a place where people can learn, grow, build relationships, and simply exist without fear.

Yet across the country, women on college campuses are still navigating the threat of sexual violence. Students have to deal with gun violence.

This photo was taken at Howard University and it reminded me that something that should feel ordinary like walking across campus, holding someone’s hand, and feeling safe should feel normal. There should be no fear in a place you go to learn.

Safety should not be a privilege on a college campus. It should be the expectation.
