The High Backrest | The distinctively tall, gently enveloping backrest of the Farmor armchair was designed with quiet intention. It provides dedicated support to the thoracic and cervical spine, wrapping subtly around the sitter to create an immediate feeling of shelter, calm, and protection

Looking at the bare wooden architecture before upholstery, you see the exact lines Carl drew to balance structural strength with human comfort

The Farmor (“Grandmother”) armchair is one of Carl Malmsten’s most beloved classic designs. Created with deep respect for human proportions, Malmsten believed that a chair should act as a physical extension of the self a sanctuary for the spine and mind

Highlighting an enveloping backrest, precise armrest geometry, and an anatomical pitch, the Farmor frame balances structural integrity with quiet shelter. As we strip down this iconic piece to preserve its solid timber core and traditional natural materials, we honor the standards of authentic Swedish modernist restoration

Honoring true craftsmanship inside the workshop For the iconic Farmor chair, selecting the right fabric is about far more than aesthetics it’s about staying faithful to Carl Malmsten’s original vision

Carl designed with intent, prioritizing durability, tactile warmth, and functional longevity so every piece could be lived in for generations

A meticulous project made possible through expert hands and shared standards crafted alongside master upholsterer @elhadji_mobeltapetserare with extra eyes on every step to ensure the integrity of the design remains uncompromised

True luxury isn’t about what’s new. It’s about what lasts, what carries a story, and what refuses to be thrown away. That is why Malmsten 2nd Life exists. We don’t just restore frames, we build walls against the disposable mindset

We do not restore to cover up history. We deconstruct to expose the art within the engineering

This single archival frame stands stripped, raw, and exposed suspended between what it was and what it is about to become

This is not upholstery, and this is not a mass produced collection. This is a highly limited, limited piece curator’s edition

Carl Malmsten’s iconic Farmor chair, stripped down to its raw, structural soul, Malmsten did not design objects to fill space, he engineered anatomical extensions of human character

He believed furniture should hold your posture, reflect your identity, and outlive generations

We treat Farmor not as old furniture, but as grade design asset. By deconstructing her framework, we are honoring the extreme precision of the original craftsmanship while injecting an uncompromising, modern edge

We are breathing a second, bolder life into history

The archival review is approaching. The muse is ready

To honor the soul of this intervention and ensure the full scale experience Malmsten 2nD Life deserves, we have made the executive decision to move our Gallery Debut to Late August.

We are taking the summer to go deeper into the archive and strengthen the backbone of this vision. Quality is our only metric.

Thank you for walking this path with us. The best is yet to come
