“California Dreamin’” is a classic, but the group’s version of “Dedicated to the One I Love” is my go-to song.

Do you love this band?

Last Wednesday, I started off with a loose Autumn/Leaves theme (including a couple songs that are a stretch, but that I wanted to play!) and then had the pleasure of welcoming @oscarhallii into the studio for an acoustic performance and interview. Thank you for coming in, it was a lot of fun having you! For anyone who missed it live, the show is up in the archive for another week.

Today, I’m excited to welcome @_emgor_ back to the studio. Official announcement coming soon!

California Dreamin’ – The Mamas & the Papas

Released in December 1965, the song reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966 and became one of the defining songs of the decade.

John Phillips began writing it during a cold New York winter, when his wife, Michelle, was missing California. Together, they turned that feeling into a folk-rock classic that still makes you dream of warmer days.

📸 THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS — REGISTROS DE 1966

Seu álbum de estreia, If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears, lançado em fevereiro daquele ano, consolidou o sucesso iniciado com “California Dreamin’'

Disuruh lip-sync, Michelle Phillips malah makan pisang!

Saat tampil bersama The Mamas & the Papas di The Ed Sullivan Show pada 1967, Michelle Phillips punya cara nyeleneh buat menyindir aturan acara yang mengharuskan para musisi melakukan lip-sync.

According to John Phillips and Michelle Phillips, “California Dreamin’” was written in 1963 while they were living in New York. John dreamed about the song and woke Michelle up to help him write it.
