Roundtable recap!! On September 29, UNA-Canada and the SDG Council participated in two closed-door roundtable discussions hosted by the Embassy of Finland in Canada and Finn Church Aid, exploring the role of technology and digital transformation in advancing peace and resilience 🕊️ During the morning session, Meriem represented the Council in discussions on digital sovereignty, responsible AI governance, and the importance of ensuring communities have agency over the technologies they rely on. Conversations also explored AI literacy, equitable digital access, and youth participation in shaping emerging technologies. In the afternoon, @mandaround participated in a discussion on digital transformation as a peace enabler, examining how inclusive digital economies can create opportunities for youth and strengthen resilience in fragile and transitional settings Thank you to the Embassy of Finland and Finn Church Aid for bringing together diverse perspectives for these important conversations!!

NATO flew me out to the Presidential Palace in Turkey for the NATO Summit! I was privileged to meet presidents, prime ministers and leaders from NATO countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. It was a huge honour to interview the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, who was also the longest-serving Prime Minister of the Netherlands, as well as the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Radmila Šekerinska. I interviewed the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, in two separate locations—which was fun! The three-day event included a trip to a stunning location in the beautiful hills of Ankara, where I interviewed the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer—his fourth appearance on Talk to the Nation! The Prime Minister was kind enough to record a video for my sister Valerie, wishing her a happy birthday. A major highlight for me was Senator Chris Coons taking part in a Talk to the Nation Challenge. I met him near the Houses of Parliament just over two years ago, when I first launched Talk to the Nation, but by the time I started approaching him, he was gone, along with his entourage. Meeting him at the summit was therefore a full circle moment. He was gracious and it was delightful to speak with him. At one of the forums, I had the chance to see President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine speak, as well as President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and major leaders in business. I also met high-flying creators from around the world who have inspired me with their brilliant work and I look forward to seeing them again. This entire trip has been one of a kind, and I would like to thank NATO for this amazing opportunity!

Tarte brand trip? Not quite. Honored to have been invited to be a creator at this year’s NATO Summit in Türkiye. My father spent the Cold War as a spy, and there is something almost surreal about standing in Ankara decades later, feeling like I was following in his footsteps. Anyone who has followed me for a while knows peace is not a talking point for me, it is the whole point. NATO, at its best, is a forum where member nations build trust, consult with each other, and resolve disputes without firing a shot, which sounds obvious until you remember how rare that actually is in human history. Getting to sit in those rooms, and even ask the harder questions (the ones about war profiteering, about who benefits when tensions rise) was genuinely a once in a lifetime experience. Grateful doesn’t quite cover it. #NATO #NATOSummit
