As part of that wider collective, we have brought together a carefully curated group of South Asian-founded businesses for the inaugural South Asian Beauty Collective Awards whose values, vision and work align with what the South Asian Beauty Collective stands for.

Through our Meet the Founder series, we’re spotlighting the founders behind these businesses, celebrating what they have built, the journeys behind their brands, and why their support of this landmark moment for South Asian representation in the British beauty industry matters.

We are delighted to welcome @red.media.live as a Culture & Community Partner for the inaugural South Asian Beauty Collective Awards.

Founded by Mandeep Nijjer, Red Media Live has built a reputation for creating experiences that bring together talent, brands and communities through culture.

From masterclasses with internationally renowned makeup artist Ariel Tejada, to collaborations with Netflix and curated creator and influencer experiences, their work is rooted in creating memorable moments that connect people, celebrate talent and bring communities together.

At the South Asian Beauty Collective, community has always been at the heart of what we do. As we bring our inaugural Awards to life, it feels particularly meaningful to partner with businesses that understand the importance of cultural connection.

I was recently invited to 'The Last Princess of Punjab' exhibition at Kensington Palace and I still don't have the words for what I felt.

The story starts with Maharani Jind Kaur, mother of Maharaja Duleep Singh, the last ruler of the Sikh Empire. A woman so fierce and defiant that they imprisoned her multiple times just to try and silence her. They separated her from her son when he was just eleven years old. He was taken to England, converted, given a new life in a country that had just taken everything from his family... He never went home.

His daughter Sophia, the last princess.. grew up a goddaughter of Queen Victoria. Living down the road at Hampton Court Palace on the Crown's terms. Can you imagine carrying all of that? That history, that loss, that contradiction and still showing up outside parliament, selling suffragette newspapers, refusing to be quiet.

Three generations of women and men who had everything stripped from them and still found ways to resist.

I left feeling proud and heartbroken at the same time. Grieving what could have been for them, Punjab and all of us... if things had gone differently.
But I was also reminded of something, that brown women have never needed anyone's permission to take up space. Maharani Jind Kaur knew it, as did Sophia.
