There’s something special about watching someone you’ve known since they were small step into their purpose. My not-so-little cousin @mavathesinger carried #DearTata entirely on his own at @thetxtheatre for @drdisi’s #OneHander Festival 🎭 He’s focused, he’s fearless, and he’s building something real. Proud of you man, Keep going, Mava. The world is ready for you. 🙌🏾❤️ Ndiyazingca ngawe tishala uMava! 💫

It’s a beautiful thing to build a vision knowing there are people who understand the journey - people who stand behind you as allies, not as negative energy.

First and foremost, we never begged for support. But we are DEFINITELY paying attention to those who choose to support us.

Maybe from the outside, we look like those kids who are just “trying things out.” Because that’s become a culture: try, try, try… and quit. Do, do, do… be spoken about… and eventually disappear.

That’s not what we’re about here.

We are building.

And let me tell you something: what you are seeing right now is still the scaffolding. You have absolutely no idea what the final product is going to look like.

In many ways, I’m grateful that the government didn’t show up when we thought we needed them most. We had to figure things out. We had to stretch. We had to become resourceful. We had to discover what we were actually capable of building with what was in our hands.

And it is in moments like these that you truly understand what it takes to make things happen and you recognise the people who are willing to show up, give their time, bring their effort and fill the gaps simply because they believe in the work.

This man right here did exactly that. @mandisi_sindo

Five years is a long time to simply watch and observe the coming and going. Five years gives you enough time to see who genuinely supports the work, who simply talks about it, and who is willing to put their hands on the building.

So, to our Grootman - thank you for showing up for us, for the festival, and for the work.

We see it. We value it. We remember it.

We are not here to try.
We are here to build.

And trust me…

This is only the beginning. @_art_cave

5 YEARS. 5 EDITIONS. AND YESTERDAY, IT BECAME CLEARER THAN EVER - THIS IS THE FUTURE.

What began five years ago at the Ramolao Makhene Theatre, within @marketlaboratory , as an experiment has grown into a platform, a community and a movement.

And yesterday, watching another generation of artists step into that space, I was reminded why we started.

YES LET’S was never meant to end at a festival. It was always meant to become a possibility.

A possibility that artists can create.
That emerging voices can be seen.
That creative spaces can be built.
That our industry can develop from within.

Thank you to Market Lab for continuing to say YES LET’S - for five consecutive editions, and for giving this idea a place to grow.

And now, we build beyond the theatre.

CLUB 1000 is the next chapter: a movement to build a culture of investment and reinvestment in the arts - because the future cannot depend on one funder, one institution or one system.

We need all of us.

What started at Market Lab can only spread - across South Africa, across the continent, and ultimately to the world.

Yesterday was the fifth edition.

Today, we begin again.

The future of the arts needs us.

We agree, @mandisi_sindo. This was a much needed gathering, indeed.

Thank you to @creativefuturesafrica and @bizart_za for facilitating such platforms where creatives can engage and learn from each other.

Misplaced is a psychological one-hander exploring trauma, memory, identity and the things we carry when the truth remains buried. Through memory, ritual and confrontation, Khumbuzile is forced to face what has been lost and what has remained misplaced within her.
