2025: the year that cracked me open and asked me to stay.

This has been the hardest and most revealing year of my life. There were moments I truly thought I had lost my spark altogether. I caught myself spiraling into negative thought patterns when optimism has always been my baseline. I didn’t recognize myself at times, and that alone felt unsettling.

Divorce is hard. Deeply hard. And going through a divorce while simultaneously watching my best friend fight for her life, and then losing her, brought everything to a level I wasn’t prepared for. I lost two key players in my life this year in two very different ways, and the grief overlapped in a way that was confusing and disorienting. Some days I didn’t even know which pain I was feeling or where it was coming from. Grieving two things at once blurred everything. The people I thought I’d depend on weren’t always able to show up. And others showed up in ways that changed me forever.

I’m not going to offer some profound takeaway or polished lesson here, because I’m still in it. I miss my best friend every single day. Watching someone who wants to live so badly have no choice is a kind of pain that settles deep in your body. Grief is not linear. Some days I laugh. Some days I’m quiet. Some days I’m sad, angry, or a little unhinged. And what this year taught me is how powerful it is to have friends who allow all of that. Friends who answer the phone. Friends who show up without fixing. Friends who let me be messy one day and strong the next without needing consistency from me to stay.

What I have learned is that avoiding pain doesn’t make it disappear. Denying it doesn’t protect you. It just buries it. Facing it head-on, even when it’s uncomfortable and ugly, has been the only thing that’s allowed me to move through it instead of being eaten alive by it. Through that, I’ve found a deeper confidence in myself. I’ve learned that me, on my own, has always been enough.
