Our Gala is less than a week away, and we will have over 50 amazing artworks as part of our auction! Swipe to see a handful of them, including works by Sari Carel, Elzabeth Hénaff & Seth Wenger, Patrick Todd, Margrethe Aanestad, Rodney Dickson, Stefan Hagen, Thomas Lendvai, and Beth Weintraub, or browse all of them on our website: open-source-gallery.org/2025-gala Our art auction offers an opportunity to support Open Source while also collecting valuable artworks from both emerging and established artists. All art included in the auction will be displayed in person during the gala. Our annual gala and art auction provide critical funding that sustains the organization. We not only present dozens of programs for the public each year, but also employ a staff of over 30 teaching artists and professionals, offer free education programs in underserved communities, and support over 75 artists annually through production budgets, fair wages, and curatorial services. We need your help to continue to support artists, empower kids, and provide transformative experiences for all! When: Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 6-9pm Where: Heritage Foods, 461 20th St., Brooklyn Visit open-source-gallery.org/2025-gala for more information and to buy tickets!

MY JOYMAKERS: 🤩 Yes, America is being held hostage by an evil dictator. So I tried to spread the joy when I went back to NYC to attend my 35-year (omg!) college reunion. It was amazing to be back with my people, in the city that birthed me. Here are some of my joymakers, big and small: 1. The Beastie Girls album drops on June 20th. 2. God bless Americake 3. Outfluencer twirling for likes 4. There’s a D tat on my arm for a reason 5. My favorite commute – from Daphne’s house to Soho House 6. Dus. 7. Baking bread every day for D and her boys 8. The President’s office at Sarah Lawrence College where we held a sit in and slept on this stairway for 5 days to protest 9. Our protest made history – a younger student stopped me and said ‘tell me what it was like – you are all icons!’ 10. Happy tears with my former don Charlotte who kept me sane for 4 years. She’s 89 and still teaches 2 days a week. God bless this woman for her huge heart and brilliant mind. She taught me how to teach. And she was the very first soft spot to land I ever had my life. I am me because of her. 11. Looking out at my old dorm room and wondering if the girl then would be proud of the girl today. 12. Shenanigans galore 13. With my dearest Bette and Miranda -who just won a Guggenheim fellowship! 14. You might know him as Jeff McDaniel the award-winning poet but I know him as the guy I Jello-wrestled in 1998. He won. (And yes, I Jello-wrestled.) 15. Getting ready for the club just like 37 years ago. Nothing has changed. 16. My friend Alex’s amazing home – need a location for your cool event? It’s right here. 17. Post-dinner Led Zeppelin album cover (which was also her old apartment!) 18. Yes x 4 19. Photo booth joy 20. Part of our yearbook page 1990. Nothing has changed. 🥰

Not that Rogue River Blue, the first American cheese to win top prize at the World Cheese Awards, needs any accompaniment, but we had some fun in the shop creating a perfect tasting experience. Single heard cow’s milk blue wrapped in Syrah grape leaves soaked in a pear spirit and aged 9 to 11 months. Smooth and creamy, the flavor is clean and uniform throughout, but doesn’t lack any complexity. It’s pure, savory umami with tastes of grilled porterhouse, oak barrel staves, and roasted wild mushrooms, held together by a vibrant piquancy, and punctuated by the pleasant pop of tyrosine crystals. You will be torn between sharing this cheese with everyone you know, or hoarding each morsel for yourself. - Cheese Mongers Aaron and Beth #rogueriver #worldcheeseawards #americancheese #coldspringcheeseshop #awardwinningcheese #hudsonvalleycharcuterie #hudsonvalleycheese

As you may have heard, we have big news! Timothy & I have decided to sell our sweet shop to our dear friends from our sister city of Newburgh, Caroline, Scott & Erin (more on them will be shared throughout the Cold Spring Cheese Shop networks this week)! Timothy will get back to his artistic career, I will be looking for new career opportunities in the Hudson Valley region and Diego will be moving on to college. Timo will miss his fancy salami sandwiches and follow us wherever we go, because he is only 8. We are so grateful for these last five years with all of you. Thank you from the deep center of our big ‘ole hearts for everything you did to help keep us thriving! From buying up the last remaining baguette, ordering Dairy Boxes & platters, coming in to have mac and cheese after school to remembering to shop local during the holidays, and Covid, dear Lord, Covid. Thank you for visiting Main Street and our small businesses during one of the most important times in history. We will never forget all of that amazing love pouring through that plexiglass window. We will certainly cherish the memories that were made in that little space and miss hearing you laugh at Tim’s jokes and chatting with us about local politics, parking, or the trolley with no one in it! We could not have shaped the Cold Spring Cheese Shop into a world class gourmet grocery (specializing in cheese made in NY) without you! Timothy and I are leaving the shop in the hands of the new owners Caroline Sansone, Scott McGibney, and Erin Browning, whose enthusiasm, good taste and business acumen will take our shop to another level. As we say goodbye we ask that you keep supporting this awesome A-team that wants to honor what we built and keep NY agriculture alive & kicking! It’s been beautiful sharing so much with you & shaping our shop with you in mind. Here are photos of some of our favorite moments in the shop including photos of new owners, Carrie, Scott, and Erin! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A big thank you to all of our small batch vendors @brinsjam @bartletthouseghent @brewerscrackers @ @breadalonebakery @bushwick_kitchen (no more allowed said IG) who made it possible to curate such a destination

Hey there cheese lovers! Scott, Erin and I (Carrie) wanted to quickly introduce ourselves and say how excited we are to become part of the amazing Cold Spring community. We are eternally grateful to Rebeca and Tim, @thecoffeebeaners and @psycho_clan_nyc, for entrusting the Cheese Shop to us. And thank you for the absolutely stellar staff--we can't do this without them. We hope you are proud of yourselves for starting this amazing little shop and will be proud of us for continuing your vision. To all the cheese lovers in Cold Spring and beyond, we can't wait to meet you! Please stop in, say hi, and taste some cheese!

Our Cheesemonger is in the house Mon-Friday 12-4pm. Swing by our window for a chunk of this gem from Vermont! Read on...Jasper Hills is one of the premiere cheese makers not only in our region but we would argue the world. We’ve been able to get our hands on some Cabot Clothbound Black Label. We often carry Cabot Clothbound, a rich, succulent English Farm House Cheddar, but the elusive Black Label has been hard to get our hands on. You see, JH have these “tasters” that don’t nothing but taste and rate their own cheeses. We visited them last summer and we saw some of this at work. They first taste to see if the cheese is even okay to go to market. It has to meet their very high standards before throwing their name on it. If it doesn’t pass muster they feed it to the animals. They have flavor profile charts, and if the Clothbound cheddar gets a near perfect score it becomes the...black label! Because it’s hard to make the perfect cheese, most of their wheels do not reach this level, thus making it hard to come by. But We’ve been requesting it for two years and now we have some. It’s sweet and salty and with that amazing crunch that everyone loves. It won’t last long, so come by and get it while it lasts! @jasperhillfarm #jasperhill #thecellar #cabot #cheese #coldspring #coldspringcheese
