Dear Younger Me,

Man, if I told you how our life actually turns out, you’d probably look at me crazy. First, let’s kill the dream of hitting 6’1 them doctors are lying😂, and while we did play college ball, we didn’t make it to the league. But looking back, things turned out so much better than we ever could have imagined. Our childhood dream of playing at NC State? We did that. And God knows it wasn’t easy, but He allowed us to achieve that goal while making us the very first in our family to graduate from a four-year university. All the pushing momma did paid off in the end and still does. This life is an we’ll live has been an answered prayer every single step of the way.
It wasn’t always easy to see that though. Our relationship with God went from just knowing His name to actually needing, trusting, and making Him our entire why. And talk about major plot twists, we swore up and down we would never join the military😂 Now we’re heading out on a deployment in the middle of our last semester, and to be honest it leaves us feeling numb. For the first time we don’t quite know how to put it into words, what it feels like to walk away from a place, a team, and a life that became everything to us in such a short amount of time. You’ll come to Ferrum College looking for a team and leave with a family so close blood couldn’t make you any closer, which makes walking away feel heavy. You’ll realize it’s okay not to have it all figured out, because this chapter is just closing so God can place us somewhere else to guide, serve, and be the change we’ve always wanted to be. I spent so long thinking things had to go according to script, but seeing the brothers I’ve gained, the coaches who shaped me, and family built along the way makes me realize we have it pretty good.
So, to the kid who wanted it all: stop stressing so much. Keep God first, love your people hard, and enjoy the ride. Fail over and over again because you will fail a lot, but in the end it’s just sharpening you into the man you’re meant to become, with success following right behind. Our plan didn’t pan out, but finding God, our purpose and living it out in His will has been way more fulfilling.
