Most people think dog training is about control.

Obedience.
Discipline.
Making sure the dog “respects” you.

But what if we’ve been approaching it the wrong way the entire time?

Because behind every behavior…
there’s usually a reason.

The barking.
The fear.
The reactivity.
The stubbornness people complain about.

Sometimes it’s not defiance.
Sometimes it’s communication.

And instead of asking,
“How do I stop this behavior?”

Maybe the better question is:
“What is this dog trying to tell me?”

Dogs aren’t machines programmed to obey.
They’re individuals.
Living beings with emotions, instincts, fears, personalities, and autonomy.

And if we’re asking for their companionship every single day…
the least we can do is try to understand them.

This mindset goes beyond dog training.
It challenges the idea that control should always come before compassion.

Because the systems built around dominance and obedience whether with people or animals often ignore individuality in the process.

Inside this video:
• Why curiosity creates a stronger bond than control
• The problem with dominance-based dog training
• How behavior can actually be communication
• Why understanding dogs changes the relationship completely
• What compassion-centered training can teach us about connection

Sometimes understanding matters more than obedience.
And the strongest relationships are built through trust,
not fear.

Thank you for sharing this take @manneredmisfits_llc ❤️

I can understand why people let their dogs off leash. Unfortunately, others bear the consequence of it. Not all product purchases can be accessible to some members of the community, but having conversations about those options may start to change their mindset. Even if it’s just one person.

Normalize dogs being on leash. Talk to your community members. Keep your dogs and yourselves safe.

Working on staying calm when other dogs walk by! With my husbands major accident last year we got out of practice and Stanley started reacting to dogs when he’s leashed. Our trainer has been having us go on field trips to practice and sooo proud of how he did at dinner tonight! It was 67 and sunny in Portland, Oregon today and we went to a place on a busy street with tons of people and pets walking near by! Practice is paying off!! So proud of our progress!!!

Have you experienced this feeling before?

Dog professionals, and dedicated dog guardians as well, can fall into this habit of putting everything ahead of yourselves. It's time we have the conversation about it.

Not a professional for sure an amateur learning!! 😆😂 But here’s how I’ve been taught to reel the long leash back in! It was hard and awkward for awhile!! But either way practice it got easier and now is both our favorite ways to go on off duty walks!!
