12 years, where do I even begin? Basketball has been more than just a game it has been a home, a teacher, and a constant in my life. This sport has taught me so much about myself and has shaped me into the person I am today. The sound of sneakers squeaking on the hardwood, the rhythm of the ball bouncing, and the brotherhood built through competition will always be a part of me.

As this chapter ends, I reflect on the privilege I had to compete at the college level and want to thank God for giving me the opportunity. But as we know, life is a series of chapters, and as I turn the page, I step into something new, unknown yet full of possibility. Through all the happiness, excitement, frustration, and anxiety, I have been able to learn how to overcome adversity and understand the true meaning of gratitude. Though I may be leaving the game in the way I once knew it, I carry its lessons with me: the discipline, the resilience, and the love for something bigger than myself.

As I reflect on playing this sport, I can say with confidence that I have no regrets and I enjoyed all my years as a student athlete. As a leader, I hope I was able to leave a positive impact on those around me. As a teammate, I hope I was able to create a life long bond with my brothers. And as a player, I hope I was able to leave a legacy and culture that others can look up to.

Basketball has prepared me for this next journey, and while I may no longer wear the jersey, I will always be a student of the game and forever grateful for everything it has given me.

Here’s to new beginnings, built on the foundation of what once was.

Thank you basketball.
