This weekend we’re celebrating Día de los Muertos at Civic Center Park, the same ground where our people have rallied, marched, and demanded better from this city for generations. Setting up there got us thinking about who we’d want to remember, so we made this ofrenda for five people who fought for our community. They organized their neighbors, ran for office, built schools and programs for the kids who came after them, and refused to let Denver forget the barrios it tore down. A lot of what they fought for is still unfinished, and it’s up to us to keep going. One way to honor them is to vote. Election Day is November 3, so make sure your ballot is in. Come see us at Día de los Muertos at Civic Center this Saturday, October 24, from noon to 7 p.m. It’s free and open to everyone. Images courtesy of Denver Public Library Special Collections.
