During Guanara, we will create the criollo kiln together with Babi’s guidance.

Over the course of our days in Kiskeya, the clay pieces we shape with our hands will make their way to the fire. We will gather around the materials of the land: clay, wood, fire, and air, and experience the patience and attention that this process asks of us.

Building and firing the kiln will be part of our shared journey of ancestral remembrance, bringing us into direct relationship with the earth and with ways of making that continue to live through practice.

We are getting closer.

Meet Babi Lizardo, one of our Guanara guides.

Babi’s work is born from a deep connection with the earth and its ancient teachings. She works with local clay and brings more than eight years of experience in bioconstruction, including Quincha, Cob, relief work, and natural painting techniques.

At Guanara, Babi will guide us into the making of the criollo kiln—the fire space where the pieces created during the immersion will be transformed.

Through her guidance, we will enter into a relationship with the materials of the land: clay, wood, fire, air, patience, and memory.

The kiln holds the ceremony of transformation: clay, fire, patience, and memory coming together.

Como seres humanos somos parte de la Naturaleza, aunque por esta amnesia temporal no recordemos. Es tiempo de regresar a nuestras Montañas Sagradas y hacer una ofrenda en gratitud por todo la que la Madre Tierra nos da.

En nuestro retiro de mujeres en @oconuco.ecoturismo con @dearcilla.rd y @ayala.holistica hemos escuchado el llamado y hemos hecho esta amorosa ofrenda en el Día de la Pachamama, un día equidistante entre Solsticio y Equinoccio, un día de honra a la cosecha, a todo lo que nos da en cada instante.

Tú también puedes hacerlo en un espacio natural, una montaña, un campo, un árbol, en un tarrito de una plantita… pon tu intención y susurra a la tierra tu amor.

Gracias a todas las mamis que donaron ropa para los bebés y mamás de la montaña.

From October 14–19, 2026, Guanara: Ancestral Remembrance opens in Kiskeya, Dominican Republic — a five-day ceremonial immersion in Taíno ceramics and foodways.

Born from the vision of Akutu Irka Mateo and guided by her, Guanara will gather us in a small circle to return to the land through the hands, through clay, fire, food, ceremony, and living memory.

— We shape clay and enter the ancient language of Taíno ceramics.

— We build a ceramics kiln with our own hands.

— We prepare casabe and uiko, following the memory of yuca and the foodways that have nourished our people for generations.

— We learn in relationship with the land and with the people who continue carrying these living traditions.
