INSTALL DAY!

Some days at the Loft stay with you.

Yesterday was one of them.

Five sculptures, each weighing close to 300 pounds, made their way upstairs and into the Loft. It was a day of heavy lifting, careful maneuvering, problem solving, teamwork, and quite a bit of muscle. Watching Bill Schwob and his team bring these extraordinary works into the space made the whole installation feel like an experience in itself.

We are incredibly grateful to Bill and his team (@anthonykylehall, @mantistic, Hung from @zentnercollection, Grant,Jacob and Reiko) for the care and hard work it took to make it happen.

And deeply honored to present a solo exhibition by an artist with such a long and thoughtful practice. Bill’s career has moved across painting, photography, conceptual work, sound and sculpture, with decades devoted to exploring material, form and process.

His sculptural practice is especially fascinating. Inspired in part by travels to the ceramic centers of Bizen and Shigaraki in Japan, Bill works with wood-fired clay, allowing days of fire, ash and heat to become part of the final surface of each piece. There is intention in the work, but also an acceptance of what the material and the fire decide to do.

Days like this also remind us why the Loft exists.

We are grateful for every artist who sees something special in this space and trusts us with their work. The Loft was never meant to feel like a traditional white-box gallery. Art lives here alongside furniture, objects, textiles, fashion, flowers, food, music and people. Different forms of design and creativity are allowed to sit together, the way they do in life.

And perhaps that is what makes seeing art here feel a little different.

Thank you, Bill, for trusting the Loft with your work. It is an honor to have it here.

Opening Reception
October 9 | 6–10 PM

This is an exceptional show, and there is something truly magical about experiencing these monumental works in the intimacy of the Loft. Photographs simply cannot capture their presence, scale and quiet power.

Come experience it for yourself.

HOME IS A VERB, my new show at @minnow.arts Opens on Friday September 4th during First Friday in Santa Cruz ⚡️5-8:30pm

I’m very excited to present these new pieces that are centered in experimentation. One idea that keeps emerging in my process is the desire to connect people and places by representing familiar spaces and their surroundings. This new work is deeply personal and my intention is to encourage reflection and a new sense of “adapting” to places we call HOME.

Also very grateful to work with the most talented:

ADLC X DSPTCH event recap.

For the big release our original idea was to have it online only due to timing, but because this project was so personal to me that it felt only right to host an event at my studio. With a packed schedule I only had a small window of time to host something, and thanks to my amazing friends we made it happen! I couldn’t have been more happy with my decision.

Because this was my first time hosting an event I didn’t want to do too much, but my longtime friend @diversify said: “You gotta have music, I got you”, he then suggested a photographer to capture this special moment and I said: “I don’t need all that, it’s just a little event” (was I wrong), last minute he called in a favor and we were lucky enough to get @hollerotron. TYSM Myleen aside from the dope photos check out how many smiles you got on camera, you definitely captured the mood and moment perfectly.

I want to thank EVERYONE that showed up, supported and made this event a huge success. From @dsptch handling sales, @diversify handling the sounds, @fortpointbeer and @frankgrizzlys handling the beverages, @i99visions handling security haha, and my parents for making the out of town trip to show their never ending love and support.

I want to give a special thank you to my amazing wife for taking the time out of her busy day to bake her infamous cookies, this was such a surprise, you really are the best I❤️U. For those of you who were lucky enough to have one I told you they were amazing!

I really hope to do this again, until then I just want to thank everyone again for allowing me to open up my creative space and be my honest self. None of this would be possible without all of your support, it really means the world to me.
