Your tax strategy can’t see the whole picture if you only look at one piece. 👀

I’ve seen how easy it is to think of everything separately:

🏢 Your business
🏠 Your rental property
💍 Your spouse
👨‍👩‍👧 Your family
💰 Your investments

But here’s the thing: these pieces can be connected.

When you put everything on the same board, you can start seeing opportunities that might be completely invisible when each piece is handled on its own.

That’s exactly why we love starting with the Mantle Blueprint.

It helps map out what you have going on, identify where strategies may connect, and show you potential opportunities, so you can decide what makes sense to do now and what can wait until later. 📊

👉 Want to see the bigger picture? Start with your Mantle Blueprint at mantletax.com.

💰 You could be leaving money on the table without even realizing it.

When your financial advisor, tax professional, and attorney are working in separate silos, they may each be doing their job, but nobody is looking at the whole picture.

Think about it:

* 💼 Your advisor knows your investments, but does your tax professional?
* ⚖️ Your attorney knows your legal needs, but do they understand your business interests?
* 📊 Is your tax strategy actually connected to your investment strategy?
* 🔗 Who’s making sure all the pieces work together?

Building wealth takes more than individual professionals. It takes coordination, clarity, and a strategy built around your entire financial picture.

That’s why we start with the Mantle Blueprint, mapping out where you are today, identifying gaps, and finding opportunities to connect the pieces.

👉 Want to see what that could look like for you? Visit MantleTax.com.

🚗 Your business credit card doesn’t magically make vehicle expenses deductible.

I see this mistake ALL the time, especially when someone uses the same car for business and personal driving.

Here’s the rule of thumb:

* Business pays the vehicle expenses? You generally need to track your personal mileage and account for the personal-use portion.

* You pay vehicle expenses personally? You can generally reimburse yourself for business mileage under an accountable plan, but you need to track those business miles.

What you can’t do is say, “I barely drive anywhere… oh, I made a business trip today, so I’ll just put gas on my business card.” ❌

That doesn’t create a deduction by itself.

📍 Mileage records matter. Keep a contemporaneous log showing dates, destinations, purpose, and miles.

💬 Have you been tracking business or personal mileage?

📌 Save this for tax time and send it to a business owner who needs to hear it!

🚨 S Corp owners: don’t let a great tax strategy turn into a costly mistake.

I’m a big fan of S Corps. When structured and managed correctly, they can be a powerful way to save on taxes. BUT there’s one rule you absolutely can’t ignore: reasonable compensation. 💰

If you’ve been paying yourself very little or skipping payroll altogether, because “it’s worked for years,” now is the time to take another look.

Here’s what I’d do:
* Review your current compensation 📋
* Compare it to the work you actually perform
* Make adjustments before year-end if needed
* Keep solid documentation for your position

The goal isn’t to pay yourself the most. It’s to pay yourself what’s reasonable and do it correctly.

👉 Don’t risk a tax headache over a few dollars.

Qualified vs. Non-Qualified Investment Accounts, what’s the difference? 🤔💰

These terms sound complicated, but the basic idea is pretty simple:

🔹 Qualified accounts generally offer tax benefits on contributions. Depending on the account, contributions may reduce your taxable income today. They also come with more IRS rules, such as:
* Contribution limits
* Distribution rules
* Age requirements

🔹 Non-qualified accounts don’t typically give you that same upfront tax deduction. However, they generally have fewer restrictions on how and when you can access your money.

👉 The important part? Know what type of account you actually have. The tax treatment, rules, and flexibility can be very different.

If you’re unsure whether your retirement or investment account is qualified or non-qualified, it’s worth finding out before making your next contribution.

💬 Comment “ACCOUNT” if you want a simple breakdown of the common types!

📌 Save this for your next financial review.

🚨 S-Corp owners: do you have an accountable plan?

If you formed an S-Corp, you probably already know it’s NOT the same as running a sole prop or single-member LLC.

You need to respect that corporate veil, and that means keeping your business and personal expenses properly separated. 📑

But what happens when you personally pay for legitimate business expenses?

That’s where an accountable plan can come in. 👇

It can help your S-Corp reimburse you for things like:
* 🚗 Business mileage
* 🏠 Qualifying home-office expenses
* 💻 Certain business expenses you paid personally

And when structured and documented properly, those reimbursements can potentially be made without treating them as taxable wages.

💡 Don’t leave this off your S-Corp checklist.

🎉 Today at Mantle Tax, we’re celebrating a BIG win for a client.

You may not know this about us, but we do IRS representation work and sometimes that means stepping in when a tax situation has gotten serious.

This client had been assigned a Revenue Officer, which meant their case had moved beyond automated notices and into active IRS collection.

🚨 There were serious concerns:
* Potential liens
* Risk involving their home
* An IRS officer directly assigned to the case

But today, we got the outcome we were fighting for. 🙌

We helped our client reach a settlement/payment arrangement with the Revenue Officer.

And this is exactly why we do what we do. We celebrate these wins with our clients.

Because behind every tax problem is a real person, a real family, and a real business.

The actual deduction may not be huge for many business owners.

But here’s where it can get REALLY interesting 👇

🏠 A qualifying home office can potentially help you treat your home as your place of business.

🚗 And that can change how you look at business mileage.

Instead of certain trips from your home being treated as commuting, you may be able to deduct qualifying business transportation from your home to another work location.

That could mean miles to:
• Client meetings
• Conferences
• Networking events
• Business appointments

💡 The takeaway: Don’t overlook the home office deduction just because the deduction itself seems small. The surrounding tax benefits can be much more valuable.

👉 Save this for tax-planning season.

One of the best questions I hear is: “Okay, but how do I actually create data I can use to make better business decisions?”

Start with these 3 things:

🔹 Categorize every transaction — Know exactly where your money is going.

🔹 Reconcile your accounts — Make sure your books actually match what’s happening in your bank accounts.

🔹 Customize your chart of accounts & reports — Your reports should reflect the information YOU need to understand your business.

You can get much more advanced with accounting and reporting, but these three basics can give you a solid foundation. 💡

And yes, we use QuickBooks. There are other options, but the key isn’t just the software, it’s consistency.

Your business decisions are only as good as your bookkeeping. 📊

This is such a great time of year to do a bookkeeping cleanup or catch-up, especially if you don’t already have everything organized.

Why? Because you can’t effectively:

💡 Strategize for your business
💰 Use tax strategies wisely
📈 Understand what’s actually working
🎯 Make confident decisions

…without accurate data.

And here’s something I see often: business owners hire a bookkeeper, assume everything is being handled correctly, and later discover the numbers aren’t reliable.

Your strategy is only as strong as the data behind it.

Whether you work with a bookkeeper or handle your books yourself, make sure the numbers are accurate and up to date.

👉 Is your bookkeeping caught up? Comment CLEANUP if it needs attention, or send me a DM to chat about getting your books in shape.

Sabotaged by an Entity Election? 🚨

An entity election can be a powerful strategy, but choosing one without understanding the full picture can create problems down the road.

Before making an election, make sure you understand:

* ✅ The benefits: What can you actually leverage with this structure?
* ⚠️ The responsibilities: What new requirements come with it?
* 📋 The compliance: What do you now need to do differently in the business?
* 💡 The trade-offs: Every election has pros AND cons.

You don’t have to become a tax expert. But you do need to understand what you’re electing, what’s expected of you afterward, and how to use the structure strategically.

And if your tax pro recommends an election, don’t be afraid to ask, “Why?” and “What does this require from me?”

👉 Save this before making your next entity election, and share it with a business owner who needs to hear it!
