The past month has felt like a delicious homecoming, with birthdays and best friends visiting and getting married, and long golden days that stretched into the evening.

At some point during pregnancy, I was worried that life would feel smaller once I had a baby. That the world would contract around this new, enormous thing. But May reminded me that it doesn’t actually shrink - it stretches. All of this, the life I had before him, still mine. Only bigger and more beautiful now he’s here. 🤎

I’m forever grateful to have crossed paths with all of you. I dedicate this movie to all of them and also to my little brother @franciscosaraivamemories who was gone too soon, but always with me in every frame, every journey, every dream. 🕊️

One whole month of Leo, and I’ve only just summoned the mental capacity to try and write about his birth. In the midst of baby brain I’m not sure I’ve managed to do it justice, although perhaps no words ever can.

I hesitated in sharing it if I’m honest. Birth is so wildly unpredictable, and not every woman’s experience is one she wants to revisit, let alone celebrate. But I share mine simply because for me, unexpectedly, despite all the medical trauma in recent years and very little time to ‘prepare’, it was one of the most healing experiences of my life. And that felt worth saying out loud.

No words can describe this feeling ✨ our baby boy Leo.

He arrived five and a half weeks early at 05.47am, just as the morning light broke through after a calm ten hour labour. I feel like the luckiest person in the world. 🤎

It’s an absolute honor to premiere this dear project in one of Lisbon’s most iconic venues — Cinema São Jorge, during @surfatlisbon . Even more special: we’ll also be streaming “above. below”, a small surfing/freediving short film featuring my better half, @christinagindl , doing what she loves most.

And because good things come in threes, the same session will also screen two legendary bodyboarding films: “Cuore Blu” by @seaboule & @simmeciak , and the iconic “Tension 11” by @chris.whitey . Amen to bodyboarding! What a privilege to see our sport taking center stage at such a major event!

I half expected to wake up with a vulnerability hangover this morning. Sounds silly, but a joy like this can feel so brittle in the aftermath of loss, like something you have to hold close to your chest just to keep it from breaking. And let me tell you, it’s been *quite* the year - although I’ll save sharing more on that for another time.

For now I just wanted to say thank you for receiving my news with so much love. We’re so touched by all the support that’s found its way to us over the last 24 hours. I couldn’t be more grateful for my corner of this silly little app. You lot are genuinely the best. 🤎

Happy 1st Birthday to Bittersweet - a piece of my heart and soul in book form. Since it was published 12 months ago, over 6200 people have read it. Wtaf. 😱

I wrote this book from the darkest, rawest corners of my grief, never imagining it would land in the hands of so many of you. I still remember hitting ‘send’ on the manuscript with trembling hands, wondering if I’d regret laying bare the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through. Turns out, it’s been the opposite. You’ve read it, cried with it, underlined it, gifted it, DM’d me about it - and in doing so, made me feel less alone in this messy, sacred human business of grief and love.

Here’s to those of you who’ve walked these pages with me. I’m so glad it found its way into your hands. 🧡
