POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Entre la Coca y el Oro is a magnificent exhibition by Tatiana Arocha, the result of ten years of research into Colombia’s history, its landscapes, and the communities marked by the country’s enduring relationship with coca and gold.

Tatiana’s work is intimate and profoundly feminine — surrounded by love and collaboration. She honors and gives full credit to the artisans who helped her bring these exquisite coca plants to life.

Having grown up in Colombia in the 1980s, I remember how traveling abroad often felt like carrying the weight of a label. Seeing this exhibition today was deeply humbling — a reminder of the beauty that emerges when we reclaim our stories through art, generosity, and connection.

It feels especially meaningful that this exhibition opened today — October 12, a date known as Día de la Raza or Día de la Hispanidad (Columbus Day in the U.S.) — a day that invites us to reflect on identity, history, and the resilience of our cultures.

Thank you, Tatiana, for your endurance, discipline, joy, and above all, your gratitude.

Come see this extraordinary exhibition at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art at Snug Harbor, Staten Island.

El amor es cosa de vida o muerte [Love is a Matter of Life and Death] (2005) by Priscilla Monge 🇨🇷

⭐️ Costa Rican artist Priscilla Monge uses a range of media, including #sculpture, #installation, #performance, and #photography, to question established hierarchies and #power relations. Monge’s practice allows opposites to sit uncomfortably side by side as she explores notions of love and aggression, often playing with #language in the process.

⭐️ In the series The Artist Reveals Mystic Truths, Monge delicately painted teacups that reveal phrases written on the inside rim in coffee, all ending in the phrase “a matter of life and death”. The blood red tablecloth, atop which the teacups are arranged, along with the muddy brown of the coffee, creates an undertone of violence that undermines the overt #femininity of the teacups. Here, Monge exposes the #brutality that is concealed within daily life, and the fine line that often exists between pain and pleasure.

📢 The AMALGAMA shoutout goes to the artist, @priscillamongecr, and some of those who have shared her powerful work online and in person:

A river represented in the work of artist Rafael Villares ads depth and serenity to any space, allowing the viewer to be transported to the Danube, Ganges or Tigris rivers.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
A hydronym (from Greek ὕδωρ hydor, 'water', and oνομα ōnoma, 'name') is the proper name by which a mass of water is designated. In this series of drawings, artist Rafael Villares uses the names of rivers as a metaphor for the fragmentation of the world we have built. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
