It happened 💫💫 World Premiere of Morne Fortune at @thenyff with @mar.achavez !! It was such a big moment for me and I felt very moved bringing the story of the Morne out of Saint Lucia, and to hear the voices of @sherween_gonzales @ashspeaksagain @jessie_mayers and many others resonate in the cinema room. Watching the movie on the big screen I could feel the long and winding road that started the first day of my PhD in September 2021 - when I felt so distressed about being the only Black person in the new cohort & didn't know how I'll survive academia... To arrive to this day, 5 years later, many travels, collaborations and creations later, with my doctorate completed and the movie premiering in New York 🥹🥹 it was wonderful to present the movie to such a kind and enthusiastic audience, and to share the space with @rachlaurenmuel and Laura Poitras, @vika.kirchenbauer and Ben Russell Thank you @leo.goldsmith and Tyler Wilson for moderating the Q&A's and allowing us to share some of the process behind Morne Fortune 🫶🏾

It is an honour for our film Morne Fortune to be introduced by Nadine Valcin, whose words so accurately capture what we have been working towards with this project. There is something surreal about seeing the film start to take on a life of its own, meeting its audience and opening up new feelings and stories. Sie hat Dokumentarfilm an der Goldsmiths University of London sowie Medien/Film & Kunst an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien studiert. 🎬 Gala Hernández López ist Künstlerin, Filmemacherin und Produzentin. Ihre interdisziplinäre Praxis verbindet Film, Videoinstallation und Schriftstellerei und vereint dabei theoretische Forschung mit formalem Experimentieren.
