In May this year I had the pleasure of being part of 28th Media Mediterranea Festival in Pula, as spatial designer for the exhibition CUTE BUT PSYCHO in @gallerynovo 🤍

The exhibition moves through the cute, awkward and hyper-attractive surfaces of internet culture, while in the same time tackling the much less innocent infrastructures sitting underneath them.

I aimed to create an almost blindingly white void, open to contamination by the artworks and the public. As if they were floating through the metaverse, freed from any tangible context - and, as such, easily interpreted as either cute, seductive, weird or slightly fucked up.

The original tiled floors were covered with glossy white tarp, the lights adjusted and neutralized using correction filters, and the artwork descriptions left floating throughout the space. /Last photo/

Last week I opened “Rot Summer,” a duo exhibition with @mar_sl, curated by @dirrtina at @holesovickasachta in Prague.

During the opening, I also presented my performance, “Party Loner.” Big thanks to @jan.brazina and @scivia.exe for performing as cockroaches with me 🪳🪳🪳🤎

The exhibition is on view until 27 August, so if you’re in Prague, go check it out!

Opening Thursday 30 July, 6-9pm, SET 91 presents ‘Holding Company’, the second exhibition of our second six-month curated programme.

Curated by Aram Masharqa (@helched), the show probes the holding company as a fundamentally intangible corporate structure, bringing together new or unseen works and performances by H M Baker (@missy.hmb), José García Oliva (@olivajosec), Luke Gould (@lukegould.studio), Markéta Slaná (@mar_sl), Maya King-Dabbs (@mayaluciayaya), Samra Mayanja (@newyearr_newmee), and Tawfik Naas (@torfhick).

Beginning from the place of neoliberal financial capitalism, the exhibition considers the affordances of ‘passive’ or ‘umbrella’ legal entities in the arts. While holding companies are everywhere in the contemporary art world, this show looks to the structure itself as a productive conceptual anchor.

Embracing rather than resisting the cultural rise of ‘corpcore’, the exhibition approaches this specific form of company on its own terms. If the gallery model is a kind of traditional company structure, perhaps the future of the gallery is holding companies all the way down: uber-streamlined, with staff and physical space abstracted out of the equation, and risk neatly packaged.

Alongside the exhibition, ‘Holding Company’ features a public programme of three scheduled meetings, collectively titled ‘Out of Office (OOO)’, with talks between Aram Masharqa, Tawfik Naas, José García Oliva, and Samra Mayanja.

Details:
Public opening event: Thursday 30 July, 6-9pm

Gallery hours: Thursday - Friday 1-7pm, and weekends by appointment. Please contact aram@masharqa.com for more details.

🖤 The second day of Media Mediterranea 28 started with a lecture titled ‘Post-Optimism’ by Tullio della Cortiglia 🫧 Our LIVING ROOM artist-in-residence presented his artistic research exploring the links between the entratainement and military complex.

🔪 Tullio della Cortiglia is an Italian-French artist working at the intersection of drawing, video, sculpture, animatronics, and pyrotechnics. His practice is rooted in craft and explores the subversion of festive and entertainment mechanisms, analogue special effects, and the entangled histories of the entertainment industry and military technologies.
