Well I had the pleasure of teaching these lovely ladies today - all the way from Canada 🍁

They made 3 beautiful silver rings each and went home happy with their creations 😃

Thank you so much Helen and @marabureauart for choosing my silver stacking ring workshop today - really lovely to meet you!

@union_gallery appreciation post 💫
today is my very last day working as the Program Director at my most favourite gallery, Union Gallery.

😭🩷
This role has been beyond grounding and has felt immensely purposeful during my time at UG. After 3 years of playing, programming, and pushing against systems ~ I am beyond thankful for all super awesome, cool, radical, fun things we were able to accomplish 🌟

Since UG is a teaching gallery, I was able to meet and work alongside so many brilliant people whose passion for what they do will continue to inspire me. It’s these friendships and connections that I will hold on to as I leave this role.

Although this chapter is ending, I’m confident that the @mercutieo and @wedderspoon will continue to shake things up 🎶

Ticket holders choose from a wide selection of artworks available in a multitude of styles—but, with a twist. Tickets are drawn in our famed lottery style, live over Zoom. When a ticket holder’s name is called, they have two minutes to claim an artwork of their choice which corresponds to the dollar value of the ticket. side by side makes for an exhilarating evening from the comfort of home as ticket holders anticipate hearing their name and keep an eye on all their favourite artworks!

📣📣📣
In addition to the virtual live ticketed event, side by side 2024 will include an in-person Fundraiser Exhibition at Union Gallery. Visit the in-person exhibition or view our online catalogue to make note of your favourite works. We’ve added options for art lovers who want to support our work: purchase a tote bag, make a donation, or pre-order our side by side postcard packs or a limited edition pin by upcoming visiting artist, Adrien Crossman!

Being back in Kingston has given me the privilege to connect to my first art community, and (holy moly) ten years since my own BFA graduating thesis exhibition, I found myself attending this year’s unbelievably talented thesis show! I didn’t get photos of everything, but here are some impressive highlights:

1-8: works from the BFA 2023 Graduating Show - you can follow them @offlineshow2023
9-10: my own graduating work in the same building, and a pretty adorable photo of my BFA 2013 cohort 💙

congratulations to the graduating fine art class of 2023 💖🎉
We took some time yesterday to tour around Ontario Hall to view the Offline exhibition, and what a treat!

What an amazing way to wrap up your time in the program 🌟

Thank you all for sharing your work with us, and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you all.

If folks haven’t visited Offline yet, the artwork is up until Saturday.

⭐️Artist Spotlight⭐️

Mara Bureau is a 21-year-old emerging Canadian artist who grew up in a small town called Ashburn. She is currently graduating from the Honours BFA Program with a minor in Art History from Queens University. Mara specializes in drawing and intaglio, as well as oil painting. She has recently expanded her practice to include working with textiles and unconventional materials. Mara puts emphasis on subverting the austerity and expectations of fine art by focusing on a more intuitive way of handling traditional mediums that feel authentic and natural. She has worked as a fabrication assistant with numerous accomplished artists, has exhibited her work in many galleries, and come summer will be a published illustrator. Her current work depicts themes of decay, residual substances, and traces of former life. She is interested in thinking about our relationships with each other as well as our relationships with the natural environment.
