The time that I spent living with Lizzie and Riley over the last few years is time that I will cherish and remember for the rest of my life. I am so lucky to have made a home with them! They are, without a doubt, two of my soulmates. Love my girls so much 🩷 Looking forward to more art and more adventures in the future! #girlhouse

Please join us on Thursday April 9th from 7-9 PM for the
:/>repair exhibition opening reception at Ulises. The affiliated Electronics Faire Exhibition features art from local and national artists engaging with the practice of repair. The exhibition theme follows the Electronics Faire founding principle that while the history of electronics is entangled with violence, manifold traditions of marginalized communities using electronics as a form of social relating, intimacy, and resistance continue to flourish. Following mending movements and care cultures, we called for works that engage with repair as a maintenance protocol, cultural practice, and queer and abolitionist methodology. Our definition of repair follows Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick’s analytic approach that

The desire of a reparative impulse… is additive and accretive. Its fear, a realistic one, is that the culture surrounding it is inadequate or inimical to its nurture; it wants to assemble and confer plenitude on an object that will then have resources to offer to an inchoate self.

Finally getting to posting some of the disposable camera pictures from my masquerade-themed birthday party in September 🎭 This was possibly the cutest birthday party to ever be. Everyone showed up in their masks! Eva, one of my childhood best friends, came all the way down from Texas to celebrate with me! Sadie made me the most beautiful and scrumptious birthday cake 🎂 I love my friends. So thankful!! Themed parties 4ever <3

#Fabricademy 2023-24 Final Projects turned into OS Machines : Open Source Design for Modern Weaving 🧵

Two Threads Meet - an Open Source Jacquard Loom

Riley Cox's project is an open-source jacquard loom allowing individual control over 100 threads. Weavers can "program" patterns using punch cards, enabling the creation of images and complex designs beyond typical looms. Inspired by the historical jacquard loom, this modern version integrates motorized controls and is scaled for artists rather than industrial use.

Introduced in the 17th century, the jacquard loom symbolized a shift in human-machine relations, prioritizing efficiency over workers' rights. Its punch card system later influenced early computer design. This project reimagines that history, returning creative agency to weavers. Fully customizable and reproducible, all plans are freely available for all to be manufactured in any Fab Lab.
