In celebration of @elliottpower_ spot for @irnbru winning bronze at the @britisharrows last night, here it is sitting in amongst all the other madness i've found myself conjuring over the years on commercials - no ask is ever, ever too big....

"Attraverso lo sguardo della cantautrice Annika Norlin e la regia di Marcus Söderlund, ci ritroviamo immersi in una quotidianità che sembra intatta, ma che è invece profondamente lacerata dalla negazione; la protagonista abita un futuro ipotetico con una naturalezza che atterrisce, descrivendo l’altezza che la bambina avrebbe raggiunto e i vestiti che avrebbe indossato, trasformando un album fotografico nella mappa di un futuro che mai esisterà." Buona Visione! V+A

SERV031. Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedala.

This must be one of the weirdest record artworks ever to hit No. 1 on the Swedish album chart.

Jens’ music was omnipresent, and the record topped every year-end list.

At the time of peak popularity in Sweden, Jens decided to disappear to Australia. This move again left an awkward void in the award show industry.

A couple of years earlier, when his first album was nominated for three Swedish Grammis, Jens was gone too. In his absence, the producer had Tommy Körberg sing ”You Are the Light” with Wille Craaford in campfire setting. It was utterly confusing.

This time on P3 Guld, again being nominated for three awards, Jens sent a video message while rowing a small boat down the Yarra River. I didn't care to attend the show, so no one was there to accept Jens’ award. I wonder what that looked like on TV.

A few days later, Metro published an interview with someone who had found the award price at a Pizza Hut in Stockholm. 500 kilometers away from the show in Göteborg. It was utterly confusing.

The following year Service was awarded Vice’s label of the year. Service’s French intern Benjamin (we soon became brothers) may have been surprised that his first and only assignment – besides partying and playing football – was to collect the award on stage.

Today you’d do it in a few minutes with AI I guess, but Jens and Marcus Söderlund actually went all the way to Iceland and did fly a small propeller plane each to make the video for ”Sipping On the Sweet Nectar”.

Jens’ first idea for an album title was A Drop of Blood in a Glass of Milk. Such a poetic image! I’m glad it’s part of the artwork, albeit in a symbolic way.

I love that Jens samples TTA on the album, and that Burial samples Jens. What an incredible trinity! 💎💎👌🏻

SERV017. The Tough Alliance - Holiday Ep

Is Holiday one of the best love songs ever recorded? A melody so convincing it doesn't bother about a chorus.

Pole Position - the statement that became Service's vignett.

Plus a version of twee Primal Scream, in fine contrast to the cover choice on the previous Ep.

This was only TTA:s second single, yet our confidence was such that we picked Sweden's most distinguished venue, Café Opera, for the release party show. Where you there?

The horse on Dan's artwork returns in the video by Marcus Söderlund and, we were delighted to realise, on the ecstasy pills circulating at the time.

THANK YOU X 5,845!!!!

The Oulu Music Video Festival, held on August 21–24, 2025, attracted a total of 5,845 visitors. Ticket sales for special and film screenings doubled compared to last year, with many of them playing to full houses. Particularly popular were Mr. Lordi – Carte Blanche, In the World of Tomorrow (featuring Mika Taanila’s and Erkki Kurenniemi’s short films), David Lynch music video special, the documentary Eno, and the experimental silent film concert by The Gloria, Billy Roisz and Ilpo Väisänen.

The 32nd edition of the festival was more international than ever before. Thanks to the Nordic Competition dozens of guests from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland visited Oulu. Hyperreality–themed festival featured films and music videos from Belgium, Austria, USA, Canada, Germany, UK, and Argentina, among others. At the packed Pumpeli Awards in RioLive, audiences were mesmerized by Swedish-Iranian artist Nadia Tehran, while the afterparty featured a set by South African-born, Paris-based Portable.

“I’m speechless of the warmth that radiated throughout Valve and its surroundings over the weekend. This year’s festival proved that there’s an appetite for an ambitious and artistically challenging program. We are a truly unique festival, even on an international scale, and this new wave of internationalization is absolutely the right direction,” says OMVF artistic director Joel Karppanen.

The next Oulu Music Video Festival will take place on August 27–30, 2026. As part of Oulu’s European Capital of Culture year, the festival will launch a new European-wide Music Video Competition. Submissions for the competition open at the end of 2025.

Photographers: Otso Heinsola, Vera Lakovaara, Emma Puttonen, Petriina Kiiskinen.
