@laborivogue corriganme con piedad! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

While attending the @tcg_gram, @michelekumibaer and @marktravrivera connected with a few dance organizations in San Juan to learn more about their work and how the people of San Juan remain resilient and creative amid significant uncertainty.

#DanceUSA #PalanteTCG #PuertoRico #MauroBallet #BalletsDeSanJuan

@danceusaorg collaborated with @tcg_gram to sponsor a Bomba Workshop at @copi.pr.

Bomba is Puerto Rico’s oldest traditional music and dance genre, created over 400 years ago by enslaved Africans on the island’s coastal sugar plantations.

As a cultural practice, Bomba has served as an essential tool for community, communication, and resistance against oppression.

The workshop created space for conference attendees to connect with this vital dance form during their stay on the archipelago.

While in San Juan, the team also connected with @mauro_ballet, founded and led by @marena_perez and @aureo_andino which aims to promote the teaching of the fine arts, contributing to the dissemination and education of their cultural value.

They aim to foster the development of classical ballet, contemporary dance, art, music, and theater as part of their country’s cultural offerings, and to promote the quality of life their communities need and deserve.

“For the first time in my life, I watched a dance show that fully represented my culture and the art form I love, and I cried. As a Puerto Rican artist born on the mainland (United States), witnessing Mauro Ballet’s production of The Wizard of Oz on the island filled me with a pride and awe I didn’t know I was missing. I felt seen. There really is no place like home.” - @marktravrivera

For over 70 years, @bsj.pr has used the training of dancers, choreographers, and dance teachers as its vehicle to foster a love of dance among the Puerto Rican public.

BSJ was founded in 1954 by Ana García and Gilda Navarra to develop the art of dance in Puerto Rico.

💗✨“You always had the power, my dear. You just had to learn it for yourself.“ ✨💗

💗 @_.yari.paola._ SO PROUD OF YOU!!! Love you!!!
