PHANTASMAGORIA XVII: FRANKENSTEIN, THE BIRTH OF HORROR

So tremendously proud of this piece of horror, humor, and awe. From the halls of Villa Diodati, under an ashen sky during the Year Without a Summer, five poets changed the course of literature forever, and the spirits of Phantasmagoria emerge from the void to tell their stores…The Vampyre, Frankenstein, and the “atmosphere of electricity” in Diodoti itself. My dear John William Polidori, there one day came those who understood.

Two shows remain, at The Athens in DeLand on 10/24 and at the News-Journal Center in Daytona on 10/30, before we return to the void…

Oh what a week we had!! Dorothy and I really do our best to bring in teachers that are going to be so invested in our students and give them what they need to grow. These people did just that. It’s so obvious how much they care about their craft and our Stray kids. So many conversations about what we can do to continue pushing our dancers.

What’s even better is the time we had together (even if it was so late at night). The way they loved on Gray was so sweet. I’m so sad this week is over!!!! It’s going to be empty in our house. Love yall!!!

As I close my chapter with the Marigny Opera Ballet, I have been looking back at the work we created together.

These images hold only a small part of it, but they carry so much people within them.

Every production was shaped by dancers, who gave the their bodies, intelligence, vulnerability, discipline, and trust, and by the designers, musicians, technicians, collaborators, choreographers, photographers, cinematographers, staff, and supporters who helped turn an idea into something living.

I’m deeply grateful to everyone who trusted me with their talents. The work exists because of you, and I will always carry it with me.

This chapter may be complete, but my commitment to dance, and to advocating for the artists and communities who sustain it continues.
