Join us at Smuin Center for Dance for an introduction to ballet, dance, and movement through the art of description. Audio Describer Ian Buchanan will lead a specialized movement and orientation workshop designed specifically for patrons who are blind or low vision. This event is an introduction to dance and performance terminology to help enrich the Audio Description expérience. You’ll also have the opportunity meet one of Smuin’s Company Artist, Margot Aknin. 🌟 NEW DANCER 🌟 Welcome CORPS DE BALLET DANCER MARGOT AKNIN to Golden State Ballet! Originally from San Jose, California, Margot trained at Los Gatos Ballet before spending three years in the Graduate Program at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. She went on to dance professionally with BalletMet 2, Dayton Ballet, and Newport Contemporary Ballet, performing a wide range of classical and contemporary repertoire throughout her career. After 14 years on the other side of the country, Margot is thrilled to be back in California—and closer to her family—as she begins a new chapter with GSB. After five seasons with a contemporary company, she’s especially excited to return to the classics, take on the challenge of Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, and work with the incredible choreographers joining GSB this season. Now in her 12th year as a professional dancer, Margot’s goal is to keep challenging herself and stepping outside her comfort zone. Kaleidoscope October 16 - 18, 2026 Elks Lodge, Newport, RI Kaleidoscope is an ever-evolving mosaic of dance and emotion. As we bring our focus to the stage, the world shifts and expands before our eyes. Each work acts as a unique shard of glass that is vibrant, distinct, and beautiful on its own and then comes together with the others to form a beautifully intricate masterpiece. Opening our 45th Season, Kaleidoscope features world premiere works by internationally renowned choreographer, Katarzyna Skarpetowska, former NCB dancer, Lauren Difede, and Artistic & Executive Director, Danielle Genest. NCB’s Rehearsal Director, Emily Baker’s powerful piece Shattered Glass will round out this fascinating program by a phenomenal group of female choreographers.
