Maybe every one of us has become someone else’s Starbucks story.

A smile. A compliment. A door held open. A message written on a coffee cup. A silent nod that quietly says, “I see you.”

Most of the time, we’ll never know what someone else was carrying. We’ll probably never know how much one small moment meant.

Just like that Starbucks employee probably has no idea that years later, I’m still talking about six words written inside a coffee cup.

We spend so much time remembering the people who changed us.

I wonder how often we forget... we might have been that person for someone else.

Nobody teaches us what growth looks like.

Maybe it looks like one deep breath before you walk in. A few extra minutes in the car. Deleting the text instead of sending it. The thing that used to ruin your whole week now only ruins five minutes.

Those moments don't feel like growth. They just feel like life. Maybe we already have.

Don't judge me by the chapter you walked in on.

We stay curious about strangers, but the people we have known the longest slowly turn into routines in our minds. This week's reflection is about the people we stop discovering, and what changes when we ask them something new.

I paired it with Shimmer. While it was wet it looked almost monochrome. As it dried, the color came through, and it still changes with the light and the angle you see it from.

The full piece, "The People We Stop Discovering", is on my Substack, Rooted in Creative Healing.

Have you ever looked at an old photograph and felt like you were looking at someone you used to know?

Growth almost never announces itself. It happens one ordinary day at a time, while we are too close to see it.

This week's Rooted Reflection is a few quiet minutes about who you used to be, and the kindness we learn to offer them.

I used to think I was behind. Then I asked: behind who?

This week's reflection is about the timelines we inherit without ever choosing them. I paired it with Midnight, a painting that came from slowing down long enough to notice the quiet.

The full piece, "What Are You Rushing Toward?", is on my Substack, Rooted in Creative Healing.

Have ever noticed how things move so fast?

The older I get, the less I believe there’s one path we’re all supposed to follow.

We all have different tracks.

Different destinations.

Different seasons.

Maybe the goal was never keeping up.

Maybe it was learning how to move through life without losing ourselves along the way.

The date may be the same.

The season rarely is.

For a long time, I thought being strong meant not needing anyone.

I became very good at figuring things out quietly.
At carrying things alone.
At saying “I’m fine” before anyone could ask twice.
At struggling in private so nobody would ever have to see me struggle.

From the outside, it probably looked like independence.

But underneath it was something else.

It was fear of being seen as incapable. Fear of being too much. Fear that if I admitted I didn’t know, couldn’t cope, or needed help, somehow I would become less worthy.

So I learned to hide the hard parts.

And that became exhausting.

Because there is a difference between being capable and feeling like you always have to prove that you are.
