“Wasted Potential” is the title of @skylargrey’s new album, but her @anzieblue Nashville listening party was the antithesis! 💙🎶 Out May 22, this is a “quintessential millennial” album — that also appeals to anyone who loves the ‘90s, has felt misunderstood, or faces crossroads in their lives.

Amid turning 40, Skylar re-examined the early part of her life — long before Eminem and Rihanna recorded “Love the Way You Lie” (which Skylar told us she wrote a month before its release) — when she was a misfit in small town Wisconsin. 👩‍🎤 And finding herself falling in love with that upbringing, despite her desperation to escape it at the time.

I don’t want to give away too much before the album drops May 22 — but after Skylar and @hvassar dove into each track, I am excited to encourage y’all to keep your eyes peeled! 👀 Some songs are already out as recent singles, including album opening track “Nirvana” 🔥

s/o to Anzie Blue for hosting such great company! 💙 We had everyone from @amylee of #Evanescence — on the cusp of their own new album, Sanctuary, out June 5 — to industry figures like my kinetic sidekick @kit.better CMO @dearcalliope (in town from LA) and @sheisthemusic senior strategic adviser @tammyhurt (in town from Atlanta), to rising artists like @stellaprincemusic and @2livebre, and many more! ✨

Anzie Blue is nestled in quaint Hillsboro Village — just far enough from the bustle of Broadway and the business of Music Row, the “come as you are” (no Nirvana pun intended) vibe of Nashville’s only female-owned venue reminds me of the spirit Skylar is alluding to on this new album. 🤠

The listening party was preceded by @marcuskdowling’s Culture At Large podcast recording with @iamstruggle, who emphasized “purpose over popularity” in music! 👏

Thanks to AB owner @marcieallenvanmol for the invitation to an unforgettable evening! 🫶 #SkylarGrey #Nirvana #millennial

Last photo set from Nashville listening sesh… was so special to be able to sit down with everyone and discuss the songs one by one, talk about the inspirations behind each and the overall narrative of the project. Can’t wait to get the rest of this music out into the world.
