Sidney and Shane’s wedding was made for black and white. Black tuxes, black gowns and calla lilies for the whole wedding party gave their Vancouver Island wedding a timeless, elegant feel we couldn’t get enough of.

The setting at Sooke Harbour House, sitting above the Pacific Ocean, made the perfect backdrop for a day full of fun, laughter and a few happy tears.

As wedding season starts to slow down, I always find myself looking back at the year. The applications that flowed, the ones that fought me a little, the photos I loved and the ones where I agonised over tiny details that could have been better.

If you’re a bridal artist, this is such a good moment to sit with those questions. Was there a skin type that kept giving you trouble? Something about longevity, or how your work reads on camera? Maybe your content just doesn’t feel like it reflects what you can really do yet.

I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years, including as a Trainer for MAC in the UK, and built a bridal business around a niche that works for my life. I’ve also put a lot of time into figuring out content that actually feels like me, and nothing makes me happier than sharing what I’ve learned with other artists.

My coaching sessions are one on one and totally shaped around you. We can dig into technique, your kit, your booking process, your photos and content, or whatever has been sitting on your mind this season. You’ll leave with clear next steps and a plan you can actually use before the next wave of brides arrives.

We’re so excited that the Sooke Harbour House is open again! We felt lucky to get to photograph Sidney and Shane’s wedding there.

This is a venue that has it all: West Coast boutique hotel charm, garden patios, ocean and mountain views, and Whiffin Spit right next door for portraits. This is definitely a Vancouver Island wedding venue to have on your list.

Victoria’s brief was: a romantic, whimsical updo with lots of loose pieces, but no hair on her face.

This is actually such a common request, and you don’t have to wear your hair slicked back just because you don’t like the feeling of hair on your face.

There are so many brides who want that soft, romantic look without having loose pieces right around their face.

Sometimes I’ll pull a few wispy pieces down around the ears and temples, or I’ll create softly draped pieces around the forehead so the front of the updo still feels relaxed and romantic.

There are so many ways to customize this depending on what feels comfortable for you, and these are just a few of my favourite ways to create that softness. 🤍

Looking back at a stunning day in April, captured by @mariacarerephotography — the best day.

@mariannemoore_makeup started our bride’s day beautifully, at the @fairmontempress hotel. Gobi, the couple’s greyhound, was able to be present for all of their important moments thanks to @brideswithdogs as well. Thanks Angelina!

@folklorefloralvictoria stunned the whole group with an incredible collection of flowers that brought the room to life and delighted the bride!

@victoriapartyrentals_yyj @trenddecoreventdesign and @decoratevictoria provided everything we needed to make the room warm, inviting and alongside many trinkets and items from their own home, personal.

@marrymemel was a fabulous host as always and put together a beautiful ceremony for these two. A perfect day!

If the 🥹 emoji was a wedding

M&X’s wedding day in the heart of Fernwood was life changing and it will be forever engraved into my soul. They said their private vows in front of a heritage home and while I photographed their words, I also saw the residents of Fernwood pass with happy tears in their eyes. M&X have a love that’s contagious and warms the hearts of everyone around them, the sky even gave us the smallest patch of cooling rain just on that very corner where they stood to comfort them from the hot sun so they can enjoy their words and the moment together, it felt completely surreal.

They later held their ceremony inside the local theatre surrounded by their favourite people and again, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. It doesn’t get more cinematic than a neighbourhood theatre ceremony.. I mean wow. 😭

They continued the celebration at @stage.fernwood where they enjoyed the BEST EVER food and partied the night away. We opted for a sidewalk dance party for group photos to keep the good vibes going.

Best day ever is an understatement. 🥹🏳️‍🌈
