MONDAY 🗞️ DUMP
• Rep. Nancy Mace launched a campaign for South Carolina governor Monday after days of teasing the announcement.

“This morning, I’m making it official. I am running to be your governor of the great state of South Carolina,” Mace said in an announcement Monday morning at The Citadel, a military college where she became the first woman to graduate from the Corps of Cadets program in 1999.

• The Supreme Court said Friday that it will weigh the constitutionality of a common form of redistricting used to protect the voting power of Black and Hispanic voters: the drawing of congressional districts where racial minorities make up at least half the population.
Experts in election law said the move signals that the court may be poised to further narrow the Voting Rights Act.

• The Texas state House Democrats filed off of buses and Ubers into a crammed county party headquarters at a strip mall Sunday night, standing alongside Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to rail against what they charged was a racist, unfair and undemocratic attempt to overhaul the Lone Star State’s political map.

• More Americans identify as Democrats than Republicans for the first time since early 2024, according to new Gallup polling.

• Electricity costs are rising nationwide — and could get even higher for some with the explosion in data centers powering AI. Electricity prices vary regionally and have many influences, from basic supply and demand to fuel rates and infrastructure costs.

Yet many analysts point to power-hungry data centers as a driver of rising rates, up 6.5% between May 2024 and May 2025 nationally. That’s partly because of data centers’ immediate demand for energy, but also because grid operators are investing in new transmission lines and other equipment. Those costs are passed along to customers.
