Posted @withrepost • @marierlester Bara Brith (pronounced ‘bara breeth’, I am reliably informed). You can find the recipe for this fabulous Welsh cake in the newly published Vintage Breadboards (published by Prospect Books). If you have never baked a cake before, this is the cake to try. You will never want to buy a fruit cake again. But you must soak the fruit in strong black tea the night before and use muscovado sugar to get the best flavour. And the inspiration for this lovely cake? This fabulous bread board with its beautifully carved lettering! #barabrith #einbarabeuniddiol #welshtraditionalcake #regionalrecipes #ourdailybread #vintagebreadboards #antiquebreadboards #bakeoff #regionalfruitcakes #prospectbooks #shotonaniphone

Posted @withrepost • @marierlesterbaker Scroll through to see the ENORMOUS c16th bread oven. My loaf and peel look rather petite inside it. It must have housed hundreds of loaves in its time. The ceiling (last photo) looks like the top of a beehive - beautiful stonework! #bakeoff #c16th #breadoven #antiquepeel #speltloaf #vintagebreadboards #passagesoftime #sourdough #sourdoughheaven Look at this amazing bread oven and lovely bread....& the peel too!

Posted @withrepost • @marierlesterbaker Bread on peel! This is such a lovely tool to use. Good balance, a nice crisp edge and does a great job of getting a loaf on and off my bread stone. @tim_bowen_antiques #breadpeel #antiquesinuse #cookingwithkitchenalia #notsourdough #sycamorebreadboard #cottageloaf

My insta friend @marielesterbaker got her account hacked. It’s particularly upsetting as she has posted amazing recipes, tips and tricks for successful sourdough baking and is the kindest and most helpful baker. Please give her a follow - you will not regret it! Today it’s all about oven spring!
