Charleston Harbor at work. ⚓️ The Moira McAllister and Capt. Jim McAllister are powerful tractor tugs operated by McAllister Towing, a company serving Charleston since 1987. Built in 2003, the 92-foot Moira produces 5,000 horsepower and 60 tons of bollard pull. The newer 104-foot Capt. Jim was built in 2019 with 6,770 horsepower, 82 tons of pulling power and low-emission Tier IV engines. Using highly maneuverable Z-drive propulsion, these tugs help guide, dock and escort massive container ships safely through Charleston Harbor. Both are also equipped with twin firefighting monitors capable of delivering a combined 3,000 gallons of water per minute. Small compared with the ships they handle, but essential to keeping one of America’s busiest ports moving. 📍 Charleston Harbor, South Carolina #CharlestonHarbor #PortOfCharleston #Tugboats #McAllisterTowing #MaritimeCharleston CharlestonSC Lowcountry WorkingWaterfront bayviewacres charleston southcarolina realtor South Carolina Ports Authority U.S. Coast Guard East U.S. Coast Guard D.R. Remembering one of the great Allied special operations warriors of WW2, Peter Ortiz. A U.S. Marine, French Foreign Legion veteran, and OSS operative, Ortiz became legendary operating behind enemy lines in occupied France. Fluent in multiple languages and fearless almost to the point of myth, he parachuted into the Alps on OSS “Union” missions. Armed and trained the Maquis resistance, rescued downed Allied airmen, sabotaged German operations, and even infiltrated Nazi circles under false identities. At times Ortiz openly wore his Marine uniform in occupied France, a psychological act of defiance that stunned both resistance fighters and Germans alike. He later led the massive “Le Grand Parachutage” supply operation supporting French resistance forces before liberation. Surrounded near the village of Centron, Ortiz reportedly surrendered to save civilians from German reprisals rather than fight to the last man. One of the most decorated Marines of WWII, Ortiz earned: • Two Navy Crosses • Legion of Merit • Croix de Guerre • Multiple Purple Hearts Now a major new book is bringing his story back into the spotlight: Ortiz’s War by Nicholas Reynolds and @katiessanders scheduled for release August 2026. The book explores Ortiz’s OSS missions, his work with the French Resistance, and the extraordinary life of a man who became one of the Allies’ most daring special operations figures of the war. Pre order now. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ortizs-War-Allies-Secret-Against/dp/140025616X Join us next year as we follow in the footsteps of Ortiz and keaen about the battle of the valle blanche. #ortizwar #majorpeterortiz #ww2 #oss #usmarines

Those “rings” aren’t a sonic boom or lens issue. ☀️The ripples across the sun = atmospheric scintillation, or turbulent air bending sunlight. Scintillation is the same phenomenon that makes stars twinkle. It happens when light passes through turbulent air cells with different temperatures and densities, causing small, constantly shifting refraction. 🌬The wild swirl to the side = jet exhaust schlieren, or heat distortion warping the light. . . . . . #vmfa312 #fighterjet #canon #marinecorpsaviation #photography

Freedom to Be Different 🇺🇸 The future doesn’t change by accident. It takes bold decisions. Brave action. And people willing to step into the unknown for the sake of something better. We believe in doing things differently—not for attention, but because we know there’s a better way to serve others. To create opportunity. To build a life filled with purpose and freedom. That belief is only possible because of the men and women who came before us—those who chose courage over comfort, service over self, and freedom over fear. Today, we celebrate them. The protectors of liberty. The ones who reshaped history so we could reshape the future. Happy Independence Day. 🇺🇸 Let’s keep building something worth protecting.
