Sydney and the smiles within

Last week, I had the honour of being invited to Konnect, a gathering and reflective workshop organised by the Australia Awards Student Society (AASoC) at UNSW. It is always a privilege to share and connect with fellow scholarship students. I still remember when I first landed in Sydney more than two years ago and met fellow Australia Awards scholars, both from my own cohort and previous cohorts, who were incredibly supportive, alongside many Australian + international colleagues who have also supported me throughout my journey here. Some interesting topics and questions emerged during my sharing session, particularly around part-time/casual work, which can be very important for scholars navigating the cost of living in Sydney. We also talked about continuing education, and the different possibilities for work and life after the scholarship ends. I think one of the most valuable things we can take from development and educational programmes is the connections we make. Having a network of colleagues from across the world who can learn from and support one another can continue to be valuable long after a programme formally ends. And, as always, whatever steps we choose to take as scholars, what we want to study, what kind of work we want to pursue, I hope these can be genuine choices and opportunities. There is no single pathway that everyone needs to follow. What matters is being able to reflect on where we are, what opportunities are available to us, and which next step is right for us at that particular stage of our journey. And also, not to forget, proud to be part of UNSW Sydney, which is currently ranked #1 in #Australia in the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2027! 🎓✨ Thank you to the AASoC team for the invitation and for creating the space for us to connect and reflect. 🌏 Wonderful organisers: Fatimah Az-Zakiyah, Chantrea Pol, Kevin Aprilio, Sarah Disviana, Ifa Prasetya Novianafari, Ryan Al Fajri, Seyba Nabilla Iwandha, Salwa Safira, Aye Hse, Shristi Oliya, and team. Also happy to meet Tatjana Kroll + Zwe Banyar Myat. Missing Mella Astar 💖

The first semester officially ended🔚. Just ten weeks were fleeting⏳. Although the school term was short, the academic pressure was intense. Papers, assignments, and poster tasks piled up, and the workload far exceeded that of institutions in the mainland, Hong Kong, and elsewhere. Finally, I understood why no one around me chose this place. Fortunately, there was always warmth along the way💛. I was very lucky to meet Tanya, Blanche, Adrian, Eva, Jenny, and several gentle and patient professors and mentors✨, who constantly enlightened and encouraged me during the high-pressure studies. Getting along with teachers and friends was probably the most healing part of the study abroad journey. I also gradually understood that the best education is never blunt teaching, but rather teachers and students who are also friends, interacting equally and sharing gentle empathy. This is the most touching quality of educators. These 10 weeks have also brought me many precious friendships🫂. Thank you to Sister Shanshan, Eliot, Fable, Sheron, Grandma Kipa, Mario, Rahaf, Kurumi, and Kelly for the companionship of friends from different backgrounds, who have added many exotic sparks and fun🌏 to my life in Sydney. Special thanks to Sister Shanshan and Mario. At the end of the semester, we brainstormed together and worked side by side to successfully overcome the difficulties✅. Thank you to every friend around me for their company, and I also want to thank myself for not giving up. Getting through the confusion, enduring the hardships, and gradually growing stronger in this process✨. When T1 ends, the teacher I like will no longer be teaching, and it is inevitable to feel regret😔. But mountains and rivers will always meet again. Parting is not the end, but a step toward better reunions🌟. Rest and gather strength, adjust your state🔋, briefly say goodbye to busyness, settle yourself well, and continue to the next journey of mountains and seas, moving forward steadily and living a good life. #unsw #masterjourney #sydney #australiagram #postgraduate@rahaffowzi_
