𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘉𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘉𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩 opened in June 1990 and became a global smash hit. Eight of the TV show’s most popular episodes were chosen for the stage production, including 𝘈𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘴, 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯𝘯𝘺 𝘉𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘰, 𝘈𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘶𝘳 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, and 𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘵 𝘐𝘴 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘶𝘯.

While the dialogue was extracted verbatim from the sitcom, its presentation – expressions, vocal inflections, and body language – undermined the context in hilarious ways.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘉𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘉𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩 played in multiple cities, and saw future stars Andy Richter and Jane Lynch performing Mike and Carol Brady in a small theater in N.Y.C.’s Greenwich Village.

It’s generally acknowledged that this loving satire paved the way for the two feature films in the mid 90’s.

Some photos featured here are from the original national touring company of the show. Others are from 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘑𝘢𝘺 𝘓𝘦𝘯𝘰, which aired on November 9th, 1992.

FISHMONGER will be playing Slamdance 2025!!! This is a pretty special homecoming since the FISHMONGER feature script won the Screenwriting Grand Prize in 2021. I love this freaky family (looking at you @thebaxter4 @thepostcard @roboteatsdino, @frankrjmosley @jcorsie @danielcaseyandstuff). Feels very appropriate to be listed alongside “God’s Anus” and “Gurgling.”

This week, I was given an amazing gift. For context, when Jane Lynch was at my school directing a show, I was fortunate enough to be able to sit in on the rehearsals. During one of the last ones, there was a woman named Mari there, introduced as a friend of Jane's. Mari had a broken foot and was wanting a bottle of water so I volunteered to run to the store and get her one. As I was leaving to get it, she and some others noticed my Golden Girls backpack and Mari was told that I am a huge GG fan. This week, Mari was generous enough to send me two original Golden Girls scripts, the pilot and "Guess Who's Coming to the Wedding" accompanied by a very sweet note. She has had the scripts for many years and has been waiting to find the right person to give them to, and then there I was. I am so grateful to Mari for these incredible pieces of television history!
