A few things the DMV reminded me of… and a few things I’m noticing about myself along the way. ❤️

1. One thing I noticed about this trip is just how PRESENT I was. Now, one thing about me, I’m ALWAYS going to capture a picture! 😂 But looking back, I realized how little I actually had my phone in my hand. I was too busy enjoying the conversations, the laughter, and most importantly, the people right in front of me. Some moments deserve my full attention. ❤️

2. I still love my quiet mornings, a good cup of coffee, and a beautiful sunset. The DMV gave me all three! Now, what I did NOT appreciate was being reminded that DMV 50° and Texas 50° are NOT the same 50°! Why do I insist on forgetting this every single time?! 🥶😂

3. I am truly learning how to release control and allow things to unfold without managing every detail. And PLEASE pay attention to the word LEARNING. I did not say mastered! 😂 I’m still a work in progress!

4. Getting around DC during Howard HOMECOMING is an experience all by itself! 😂 The people, the culture, the energy… I loved it ALL! But one thing about me? I am NOT a crowd girly. AT ALL! 😂

5. EmPowerHer… I STILL have no words! ❤️🙌🏾 Just know my heart is FULL! Professional photos coming soon!

6. Now, y’all see those bricks and that Delta tree stump? 😂❤️🐘🔺 Well, that was SUPPOSED to be ME standing right there! All that FAVOR for 20 minutes of parking and my very determined, fast-paced walk through those Homecoming crowds, and THIS is all I got! 😂 So y’all better LIKE this post because I went through entirely too much for those bricks and that tree! 😂😂

Anyway, just a few observations and beautiful moments from my time in the DMV. ❤️

P.S. More pictures to come! But DFW ladies, have y’all registered for Don’t Forget to Pour™: There Is Purpose in the Pause on November 14th? If not, what are we waiting for?! 😂❤️ I would LOVE to see you there!

In the meantime, I’m learning to sit in each moment without rushing to the next. Sometimes you just have to let yourself BE. ❤️

Delighted to celebrate my friend @markbatterson new book, Not My Circus! I especially appreciated his reflection on spiritual discernment, bringing together intelligence, conscience, and creativity with the gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit. He calls it “anointed intuition” and “prophetic imagination.”

A wonderful reminder to seek the Spirit’s guidance as we grow in wisdom. I hope you’ll pick up a copy!

Comment "episode" and I'll send you a link to listen.

In this episode, @markbatterson joins me to talk about Not My Circus and how to live with courage, conviction, and compassion in a world of chaos.

We explore discernment as anointed intuition, why grace and truth need each other, and what Jesus with the woman caught in adultery teaches us about which comes first.

Mark opens up about people-pleasing, overfunctioning, and the practice of being unoffendable.

We discuss unity in a divided church, holding convictions with humility, and the call to create culture rather than simply consume or condemn it. We also talk about wayfinding and how discernment grows over time.

Almost Twenty years ago we walked into National Community Church six months married, young 20s, with big dreams and very little idea what we were doing. Last night we got to stand in that same house and talk about marriage with a room full of couples.

We are still a little undone by it.

A few lines we keep echoing:

You are responsible for the person you bring into your marriage.

Disconnected does not automatically mean broken. Sometimes your season changed faster than your habits did.

Communication is not automatically connection. Constant coordination is not the same thing as partnership.

If your marriage matters, it deserves a meeting.

The goal is not never rupture. The goal is reliable repair.

Do not just run the marriage you have. Build the marriage you want.

And the one we ended on: Do not just try harder. Build differently.

What moved us most was not anything we said. It was watching couples turn toward each other in the room. Saying one appreciation out loud. Picking a day for a weekly meeting. Writing down what red feels like in them. Choosing one rhythm, not four, for this season.

Thank you, @nationalcommunitychurch , for trusting us with your people. And to every couple who showed up on a Sunday night to work on something that matters: we are honored, and we are cheering for you.

Looking forward to more nights like this in 2027!!!

20 years ago, In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day was released! What an incredible book that has impacted so many lives, including mine!

Today, my friend and author Mark Batterson is releasing another gem! 🙌

GET THIS BOOK! 📚

I’ve read it, and it couldn’t come at a better time. It’s the kind of book that speaks right into the challenges we’re facing today and reminds us how to navigate them with faith, wisdom, and courage.

Mark has a gift for challenging us to see things differently and encouraging us to trust God in the middle of life’s uncertainties.

Don’t miss this one! You’ll be glad you picked it up! 🔥
