POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Most people think NIL changed college sports, but Markese Stepp says the real crisis is deeper, athletic departments now face a structural revenue problem they are not built to solve.

He breaks down why the future of college athletics depends on schools learning to generate recurring revenue like professional organizations, before the pressure, the portal, and the financial strain take over.

Markese is the founder and CEO of Sideline Life and a former USC, Nebraska, and WKU running back who signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. In this conversation, he shares how a multi-sport childhood, a pre-NIL recruiting grind, and a brutal run of injuries shaped the way he thinks about business, leadership, and long-term planning.

What you’ll discover in this episode:

The Revenue Structure Crisis: Why traditional college athletics models are failing and how schools can build recurring revenue without stepping on donor dollars or collectives.

Unlocking Hidden Value: Turning game day foot traffic into premium fan experiences and finding value in overlooked stadium utilities and infrastructure.

Alumni Ecosystems: Helping alumni businesses reduce operating costs while creating sustainable financial pipelines for athletic departments.

The Recruiting Grind: How Markese landed 25 plus offers without an agent by posting film, reaching out directly, and using Twitter and Hudl strategically.

Resilience & Mindset: How a multi-sport background and enduring a tough path to the NFL shaped his approach to leadership and business.

Essential listening for anyone navigating the changing landscape of college sports, business, and athletic administration.

College sports doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a structure problem. 🏈💼

No disrespect, but let me pop my ish real fast.
One summer changed the landscape of football in this city.

What The Summer of Separation produced is crazy:
countless D1 athletes. 7 potential pros.
Countless All-State and All-City players.
Big Ten. MAC.
The greatest catch in college football—ever.

All under one roof.
And this still isn’t even close to everyone who came out of it.

All I can say is God is good.
You don’t have to like me or agree with my methods—but the work speaks for itself.

On another note… this is Action

Bulls vs. Cows

Facing a storm bulls run directly into the storm and are able to get to the other side faster. Cows run the away from it and it follows them for a long time

How do you say goodbye to a place that became home? To people who became family? To a team and coach's family that are now our forever fam?

WKU you weren’t just a stop—you were everything to us. We came here leaving family and feeling jaded. God knew exactly where the Crenshaw family needed to be...we leave with so much love we never expected. Our football family—this place became our home, our greatest joy, and the hardest goodbye to date. Watching these players and our kids grow here celebrating victories, and most importantly older brothers to our kids.
And now, as we packed up today and head to Myrtle Beach, my heart feels like it’s being torn in two. This football life makes us move a lot yes but it also gives us the most incredible people…

As much as it hurts, I wouldn’t change a thing. Because this life brought us to you all and for that, I’ll forever be grateful.

thank you all for loving us, for embracing our kids, for making this place home. We will miss you more than words can ever say, we’ll be cheering GO TOPS always. ♥️

We love you, BG. Thank you for everything. 💔 Off to MB we go to cheer on the chants! 👌🏼
