@markilus_ is a freelance illustrator and comic artist based in Switzerland who loves bringing strange stories to life. His work is a fascinating exploration of the absurd and surreal, with sprinkles of fantasy and pop culture.

Markilus’ scenes and characters may look cute and whimsical at first, but he also likes to incorporate a few dark elements to make his compositions more compelling and intriguing. As an independent artist, he enjoys the freedom to explore bizarre and unusual narratives, and whether he’s crafting a single image or a full-fledged comic book, his imaginative work always invites us to embrace the unexpected.

Cat Memes with a Cause — by @markilus_
What happens when cats, comics, and safety come together? 🐾🔥

As part of the public awareness campaign “Rauchmelder retten Leben” (Smoke Alarms Save Lives), @markilus turned an important topic into a fun online comic-style quiz — with hilarious cat memes & playful illustrations.

The goal? To make learning about smoke detector safety easy, memorable, and super shareable. Because sometimes, the best way to teach is to make people laugh. 😸

Starting out as a freelancer can feel exciting and overwhelming. Between creative work, pricing your services, navigating clients, and dealing with self-doubt — there’s a lot to figure out.

“I thought that freelancing would always feel amazing. The truth is that some days are challenging, but I learn something from every experience.” — @markilus_

We asked three seasoned creatives to share what they wish they’d known in year one. Link to the blog post in our bio link.

Master your Creative Life 💪🏻,🤯 by Markus Eberhard

Constant doubt about your creative work, the fear of white paper, and the impression of having to compete with other people working in art and design. You think you work too slowly and not enough, or you just have the feeling of not getting ahead. These different aspects influence the way visual artists and designers work in an undesirable way. Self-doubt paralyzes your artistic work, which can develop into a creative block. The project brought about illustrated solutions in the form of a blog with an online store, a presence on social media, and a digital workout that can help creative individuals in their creative work.

Check out Markus's and other projects at the Werkschau until 4th July!

Hello hello from my (very tidy) studio / living room, where I've been sitting for the last days wearing my crazy rainbow jacket, drinking (iced) tea and doing all the CrEaTiVe StUfF🌞
ps. I spilled my iced tea right after we took this picture

I fell in love with adorable bug eating monster illustration from super talented @markilus_ so I decided to create a lil’ tribute. Hope it’s alright Markilus! 😁There is something quite fascinating about letting yourself to be creatively led by someone else’s artistic muse. Thanks for inspiring me 🙏🏽👁🍄
