A big thank-you to Turiya Coltrane and Mark Lager for inviting Jonathan and Marion to visit and soak in the rich musical and spiritual history of The John and Alice Coltrane Home.

The two-story house in Dix Hills, NY, was home to John and Alice Coltrane, and their young family, from 1964 to 1973. They both wrote and recorded some of their most enduring works there.

The house is presently being fully restored to serve as a space for immersion in history, education, creativity, and more.

It was a very inspiring visit, especially after attending Cosmic Music: The Celestial Songs of Alice Coltrane, at Carnegie Hall, the previous night.

Thanks again Turiya and Mark.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to articulate just how special the house concerts were. It’s a challenge to put to words, because honestly it’s more about each of the hosts (and the glimpses we got into their lives that made it so magical) than It is about our actual musical experience, or road journey ( which was all magical too;) . I guess all I can say again is, these are rare people, that are extremely giving, kind and patient…. And they’re all risk takers and true explorers of the human heart, which makes them my kind of people. I left loving every one of them (and we also left feeling like we truly made friends for life.) I didn’t take many pictures, so I have only two of the hosts, and I regret it now (but they kindly took some pictures of the performances that I’m sharing here ) and I put a few snaps i took of folks who came out, as well.

The folks that came out to listen are also a rare and beautiful kind…my god thank you all so much…. It was a joy to get to talk with some of you before and afterwards ….and hear some of your stories! This is why I wanted to do house shows!

Lastly , thank you Undertow, you are amazing and such a huge benefit for artists that want to do these beautiful and intimate concerts . We just love you.
