What a day! I don’t recall the last time @marklandvik and I have gotten to ride together, but we got to ride together today and it was an ALL TIME, classic banger at @skieaglecrest . Thanks for riding with me and getting in my way. I loved every minute of it old friend. Oh yeah, Snowboarding is awesome.

That being said I’m back at the shop, so come buy some sh#t and hang with yer boi!

In 2003, snowboarding’s story needed to be told. The new generation was charging hard—but few knew who carved the path before them. The goal was simple: honor the pioneers, their mindset, and the roots of the sport.
With help from @standardfilms and @fuel.tv, that vision became The Standard Snowboard Show — the first-ever historical snowboarding series. Each episode paired two icons, from Tom Burt & Matt Hammer to Jeremy Jones & Kevin Jones, Noah Salasnek & Travis Parker, Victoria Jealouse & Andrew Crawford, Jussi Oksanen & Mad Jonsson, Frederik Kalbermatten & Jim Rippey, and a full episode dedicated to Dave Downing.
Six half-hour episodes turned into a movement. Fuel TV doubled down, the edits went nonstop, and 36 episodes later—an era was captured forever.
Snowboarding has always been about the now, but this series was built to remind riders where it all came from. The legends who shaped the culture are still riding today.

(2 of ?) The first 12 years. That’s right! I said first. We have a long way to go on this road still my snow sliding companions…
My original inspiration, the thing that got me into the shop, was seeing @wolfgangnyvelt (🙌) in the older @absinthefilms videos. This one shot where he spun the board under his palm, tail on the ground…that one shot made me leap up and exclaim “I can make one of those!” I only wanted a board for myself originally because I couldn’t find one to purchase. I didn’t really even know what it was called…Hence the name Shark Snowsurf. Turns out the term Snowsurf is more kind of a Niseko based snowboarding movement. Who knew?
I used the term because, from the onset, I wanted the designs that I came up with to work in all conditions. That was back in 2010-11.
This season at Shark, I am finally heading down that road to an all mountain board!!! I am SO hyped to get my designs pressed in conventional snowboard/ski materials. They will be faster, lighter, and much more durable.
The new 6 channel boards are based off of prototypes that I have been riding for 3 seasons now. Those protos were so hard to make and were, in a way, disappointing. Disappointing only in that it seemed impossible to produce them in numbers that matched my sales numbers and the time each one took was just too much to be feasible. Kinda crazy when you strike gold but can’t afford to mine it and have to let it sit in the ground 🤦🏻‍♂️
This season my design and manufacturing process has changed. I finally found a manufacturer that can make these complex designs feasible to release to the public!

What makes a video a classic? What gives a song or an outfit or an aesthetic staying power? Why do certain clips fade from the zeitgeist while others become legendary? Why is Eric Jackson talking about fishing?

Aethetica (2008) is a snowboard movie in the classic sense. Part/rider/song. Serious clips. The occasional smile. But despite the name, it’s not quite the right aesthetic for the vintage revivalists. It doesn’t have the perfectly fitting look of “TB4,” nor the campy fun of “That.” But it is a snowboard video worth remembering and a good one at that.

Now up on the site, reflections on “cringe,” making art, and what the hell “Aesthetica” really means.

I’m currently muddling through a long winded, rambling, and slightly esoteric ode to a certain era of snowboard video aesthetics that brought me, thankfully, back to this part. It felt pertinent to share it with you good people. It’s the things like this that remind me why I love snowboarding. More reflections on all this up on the site soon.
