The Silver Lake Modernism Walk returns later this year.

These homes are a reminder that Silver Lake is shaped as much by landscape and light as it is by architecture. On our last walk, we moved through homes by Richard Neutra, John Lautner, and Eric Lloyd Wright and talked about why they still feel so relevant today.

What stands out most is the range of people who join. Neighbors, buyers, designers, and architecture lovers all seeing the same spaces through different lenses.

That mix is what makes these walks feel less like an event and more like a shared way of experiencing the city.

Silver Lake Modernism Walk 4.4.26

There’s something about walking Silver Lake that changes how you see it. The hillsides, the glass, the way a Neutra catches afternoon light differently than anything built after it.

Earlier this month we spent the morning moving between homes by Neutra, Lautner, and Eric Lloyd Wright, talking about why these houses still feel ahead of their time.

What always strikes me is the mix of people who show up. Longtime Silver Lake homeowners who want to understand the history living next door. Buyers who’ve been quietly dreaming about a post-and-beam of their own. Designers, architects, and neighbors who just love this stuff.

These walks remind me that a home here isn’t really a transaction, it’s a decision to live inside something meaningful.

Every time we do this, it feels like more than just a walk. It’s really about slowing down, paying attention, and taking in the mid-century modern homes that shape Silver Lake, from the materials to the ideas behind them and the architects who brought them to life, including Richard Neutra, Eric Lloyd Wright, and John Lautner.

I’m always grateful to share this with people who genuinely appreciate architecture and design.
