POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

**NS-5 vs. NS-5 🤯**

On the left is my NS-5 serial number 433-1-5, the very first five-string NS bass produced. This bass was crafted in the late 1970s at the Brooklyn Workshop and was completed in January 1980. At that time, there were no five-string bass pickups available, so the shop creatively used half of a second DiMarzio Model P pickup to span all five strings. This bass has been part of my personal instrument collection for almost thirty years!

On the right is an NS-5 made by Spector, the current Korg/Spector company, as a tribute to my original NS-5. It was displayed at the January 2026 NAMM Trade Show in California. Since this bass was copied from my website, it was quite a shock to see it at the show!
I do not own this bass.

I took both photos and tried to align them as closely as possible for your viewing pleasure.

Which bass do you prefer? Perhaps both?
I’d love to hear your thoughts—comments are welcome! 👇

And as always, be sure to see it all at VintageSpector.com !

Ben Tufts and Friends present: Spirit of ‘76 at Jammin’ Java - 9/12/2026

For 15 years, Ben Tufts has been hosting concerts featuring DMV talent, benefitting the scholarship fund in his father Craig’s name. Every event is a different theme, and since this year coincides with his 50th birthday, he decided to feature the music that was on the radio and in concert halls in 1976. You’ll hear music from ABBA, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Boston, Cat Stevens, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Hall and Oates, Heart, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Peter Frampton, Rush, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, The Band, The Ramones, Thin, Lizzy, Tom Petty and Warren Devon
