Facente parte dell’edizione d’arte “Tre Teatri Baresi”, edito dall'@accademiabelleartibari , il progetto illustrato nasce dal desiderio di valorizzare e raccontare il patrimonio storico e culturale di Bari.
Il Teatro è racchiuso nella forma dell’ovale, che agisce come lente che cattura l’anima di uno dei monumenti più importanti della città di Bari, creando un ponte visivo e temporale, fra passato, presente e futuro.

This past #semester I took #printmaking & #artjournaling courses @ncjwnewyork which I was grateful for @ncjwinc providing me a full #scholarship to attend #artclasses recognizing #workingartists especially #jewsofcolor. Which still is being undermined in major #jewish institutions even in the #arts 😞 I instead had an amazing time volunteering @letmypeoplesing by @adamah_org 🆙 state. People don’t realize the #glasscielings we #artists have to face today,
To get our work shown / sold to only do a lot of unpaid labor to walk away with Pennies #entertain others. However, I’m honored to share my #passion wherever I can. At #ncjw, we had a #springexhibition last month, with their #elders & #femalecreatives, where I mixed #traditional #prints with #contemporary #drawings. I had a wonderful #professionaldevelopment session with #fountainhousegallery reviewing my #portfolio today, and supporting me to taking my #craft to the next level! @tarasuesalusso 🙏 I am having a #samplesale of pay what you wish for any of my past works. Did you know that the quills on a Roseate Spoonbills’ primary and secondary feathers are red? Normally one cannot get close enough to see this detail (mainly when they are in flight), and while they are strolling through shallow water feeding these quills are not visible.

Did you also know it is challenging to paint these quills with a steady right hand while also holding an iPhone in the left hand and maintaining focus? It helps to be slightly ambidextrous.

No gloves for this step. One of the final stages of preparing an etched plate to be printed is cleaning the plate tone (subtle grays) from the image. These grays will subtract the color intensity of the finished image.

They are removed by hand-wiping the surface of the plate with the heal of my hand which has a dusting of whiting (like talc power). There is a skilled craft it this process controlling the speed, pressure, and precise location with the hand movements.

After hand wiping the polished areas on the copper shine like a new penny.

Inking a small copper plate. This is my Palm Warbler etching which shows the inking process for one of my etchings. The aquatints (gray tones) are delicate so I must be careful on how the ink is applied or the image will slowly deteriorate with the printing process.

This also shows a small turntable I built to help with the inking process. It is an advantage to constantly reposition the plate when wiping which eliminates trails of ink that would appear if the wiping was consistently made in one direction.

Repairing a flaw in the plate. Erasing is not an option in etching when a mistake is made. The surface of the plate, in this case copper, must be scraped away then polished so as not to hold ink. This post shows the repair of a mark on the belly of a palm warbler image which accidentally happened in the etching process. This is a cliff-notes version of the repair which took a lot longer than this video suggests.

The tools used in this process are displayed. Not shown are the sandpaper, steel wool, and sweat used for this repair. The last image displays a proof of the repaired plate. Can you tell the difference?
