POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Plenty of foot shuffling went on last night.

We even had a couple who were staying at the hotel next door come to see what all the fuss was about and it turned out the husband loved Ska. They ended up staying till the end 😄

@voutoreenees_ is the perfect venue for Ma's Joint. Stylish and comfortable with plenty of seating, should you want to give your dancing feet a rest. A quirky, eclectic space with plenty of spots for photo opportunities. The staff are amazing too, keeping those drinks flowing.

Don't forget, if you love Studio One or Treasure Isle music, you'll be spoiled rotten this Saturday as the DJs are looking forward to playing you the best vinyl tunes.

How wonderful is it when your youngest son appreciates the good music of Ray Charles and feels comfortable enough to dance with his old mother? 😂
Ma's Joint is an event where revellers are encouraged to let loose and express themselves freely through dance, feeling the music in their bones and connecting with others. When you observe others dancing without judgement, it becomes infectious ☺️

Welcome to the introduction of the "Ska Train". A chance for those entranced by the heavy beat of the music to showcase their moves while encouraging others to join in expressing themselves.....

Thanks @gaffa_blue for bringing my favourite Ska track "Dreadnaught" by Baba Brooks.
How sassy does @rachel_kay_portraiture look at the rear?!

I think the first photo here might be one of my favourite ever taken at the General Echo Reggae Disco, the essence of the night captured in blurry black and white. The gentleman dancing (and his partner when she’s able to) have been coming to the night since the early days at the Victoria, and it’s always great to see them.

RS Digital obviously smashed it with the tune selection on Friday evening, as if it was ever in doubt, a truly sublime set. He’s such a pro that he even took the malfunction of one turntable in his stride, and just carried on old school style on one deck, effortlessly juggling 45s whilst introducing each tune on the mic, you can tell this man has radio experience! My decks do tend to get a battering as they’re in use every month, repairs are currently taking place and we should be back up to two next month! And you definitely need to get Friday 12 June on your calendar now as we have a dynamite double bill for you: @princessnadene_dj - daughter of Dennis ‘crown prince of reggae’ Brown, playing a set celebrating her father’s wonderful music PLUS @uk_corner aka Antonella - a fine writer, collector and selector that we’ve been wanting to book for some time. One to shine your dancing shoes for.

These photos and videos by Jas (pictured in the second photo) who we were very happy to see back safe and sound from his travels, and once again gracing us with his presence. As well as the guest selectors, everyone contributes to make the dances what they are, all the attendees and all the hard working staff and volunteers at the trades hall, we appreciate you all.

Session report for 9 May 2025 - Pam & Angie D absolutely smashing it behind the decks with superb tunes + a beautiful crowd of music lovers + the best venue in London = more pictures of people having a nice time to great music!

Thanks to Magda and Jas for the photos, everyone that came, all the Trades Hall crew, the MCs, and of course Pam & Angie, they’ll be back guaranteed.

Next month - we’re going a little way different for a one-off special. Usually the night is 95% roots, rocksteady, dub, reggae etc, with a little sprinkling of soul. On Friday 13th June we’re flipping the formula on it’s head and presenting ‘A Soul Shakedown Party’ with a whole load of our former guests playing their favourite reggae covers of soul tunes, soul songs that were covered by reggae artists, and just great soul 45s. Mark it on your dancing calendar now! Back to dubwise in July.
